Rhinocerebral Mucormycosis Treated With Posaconazole: An Only Oral First-Line Antifungal Therapy
This report highlights the possibility of occurrence of this rapidly fatal condition even with normal looking nasal mucosa. High index of suspicion is required to prevent the complications because the course of the disease is very rapid. This case report emphasizes the fact that posaconazole is the only available oral antifungal, which can be used as a first-line agent in the management of mucormycosis, even in immunocompromised individuals. Nasal polyps: a predisposing factor for cutaneous leishmaniasis of the lips?
ConclusionsIt is possible that, in patients with nasal polyps, asthma, and COPD, the need to breathe through the mouth rather than the nose facilitates the sting by sandflies. Subjects with nasal polyps living in areas endemic for CL should be warned about the risk for being stung by sandflies on the lips, in addition to other uncovered areas. Two-level septocolumellar suture technique for correction of septal caudal dislocation
Conclusion Our suture technique is an effective and easy-to-use method to correct the caudal septal dislocation. It can also be used to increase the stability of corrected septum by other techniques. A two-level suture technique increases the success of correction and reduces the risk of postoperative septal caudal luxation, stabilizing the superior portion of the caudal septum, in particular. Therefore, it would reduce the rate of redo surgeries. (Source: Brazilian Journal of Otorhinolaryngology)

Retrobulbar pigmented peripheral nerve sheath tumor in a dog
Abstract A 1‐year‐old male castrated Pug was referred for unilateral exophthalmos unresponsive to oral antibiotic and anti‐inflammatory therapy. Clinical findings included exophthalmos of the left eye with lateral strabismus, resistance to retropulsion, and an elevated nictitans. Hematologic and biochemical analyses were within normal limits. Findings following computed tomography (CT) of the head included an expansile retrobulbar soft tissue mass with bony lysis extending into the left nasal cavity and nasopharynx. Ultrasound‐guided fine‐needle aspirates and biopsy samples obtained via rhinoscopy were nondiagnos...

Systematic Evaluation of the Upper Airway in a Sample Population: Factors Associated with Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome
Conclusion This is the first study in which a systematic evaluation of the UA was followed by a sleep study in a population-based sample. In a sample of the general population that had not previously been screened for OSAS, having an abnormal nasal structure was found to be a risk factor for OSAS, in conjunction with other well-established clinical and demographic factors, such as male gender, increased age, increased neck circumference, and body mass index. Radiofrequency turbinoplasty for nonallergic rhinitis in geriatric patients.
CONCLUSION: RF turbinoplasty appeared to be effective for treating some nonallergic rhinitis symptoms in elderly patients, including rhinorrhea and nasal obstruction. Clinical Management and Use of Health Care Resources in the Treatment of Nasal Polyposis in Spanish Allergy Centers: The POLAR Study.
CONCLUSIONS: NP is a chronic inflammatory disease that generates considerable use of health care resources. The close association with atopy, asthma, and NSAID hypersensitivity highlights the usefulness of an allergy workup in all patients with NP. Analysis of the clinical management of NP by allergists in Spain revealed a high degree of compliance with EPOS diagnostic and therapeutic recommendations. Role of Rhinopharyngoscopy in Diagnosis of Rhinopathies
Abstract Rhinopathies, or diseases of the sinonasal cavity, are a heterogeneous group of disorders ranging from benign entities to malignant processes. Proper evaluation and treatment of rhinopathies are dependent on accurate visualization and characterization of the disease processes. Prior methods of evaluation of the sinonasal cavity were dependent largely on anterior rhinoscopy, which unfortunately provides poor visualization of the superior, posterior, and lateral extent of the sinonasal cavity. With the advent of high-definition flexible and rigid endoscopes, rhinopharyngoscopy has proven to be a ...

Tension-relaxing method-A simplified revision of the endoscopic septoplasty technique: For both aesthetic appearance and functionality.
CONCLUSION: This simple technique is feasible and minimally invasive, and may be particularly beneficial to patients with a deviated septum who seek to improve both their aesthetic appearance and nasal functionality. However, this method is not appropriate for those with a crooked nose caused by nasal bone deformity, lateral cartilages, and severe septal deformity. Combination of computed tomographic imaging characteristics of medial retropharyngeal lymph nodes and nasal passages aids discrimination between rhinitis and neoplasia in cats
The objective of this retrospective, cross‐sectional study was to determine whether computed tomography (CT) imaging characteristics of the medial retropharyngeal lymph nodes (MRPLN), alone or in combination with CT imaging characteristics of the nasal passages, could aid in differentiation between rhinitis and nasal neoplasia. Cats were recruited from record archives at two veterinary facilities during the period of 2008–2012. Selection criteria were presentation for chronic nasal discharge, contrast‐enhanced CT of the head that included the MRPLN, and rhinoscopic nasal biopsy resulting in diagnosis of rhinitis or n...
