Aesthetic Outcomes of Rhinoplasty Performed in the Early Posttrauma Period after Nasal Bone Fracture
Facial Plast Surg DOI: 10.1055/a-2235-7142The optimal timing of rhinoplasty for patients with nasal bone fractures remains controversial. We investigated whether the timing of rhinoplasty after nasal trauma affects the aesthetic outcome of the procedure. A total of 41 adult patients with nasal bone fractures who underwent rhinoplasty between 2006 and 2021 were enrolled in this study. A visual analog scale (VAS) was used to indicate the assessor's satisfaction with the surgical outcome after a comparison of the pre- and postoperative facial photographs of each patient. Of the 41 patients, 28 underwent rhinoplasty within 14 ...

Rhinoplasty Preferences: Can the Public Detect Prior Surgery on Social Media?
ConclusionsThe belief that someone had previously undergone rhinoplasty led the public to rate the aesthetic appearance of the nose lower. To provide optimal results following rhinoplasty, surgeons may therefore seek to provide a natural, “un-operated” look.Level of Evidence IVThis journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. An Automatic Framework for Nasal Esthetic Assessment by ResNet Convolutional Neural Network
This study explores the concept of data augmentation by applying the methods motivated via commonly used image augmentation techniques. According to the experimental findings, the results of the AF are closely related to the otolaryngologists ’ ratings and are useful for preoperative planning, intraoperative decision-making, and postoperative assessment. Furthermore, the visualization indicates that the proposed AF is capable of predicting the nasal base symmetry and capturing asymmetry areas to facilitate semantic predictions. The co des are accessible athttps://github.com/AshooriMaryam/Nasal-Aesthetic-Assessment-Deep-...

Major Nasal Reconstruction: Rising to the Challenge
Even a small nasal defect presents a significant challenge for the reconstructive surgeon. The functional and aesthetic demands of an ideal reconstruction are tremendously high when aiming for a flawless reconstruction of the most central feature of the face. The complexity of this task increases exponentially for large nasal defects or those that involve structure and lining in addition to skin. Reconstruction of extensive subtotal or total nasal defects is a daunting endeavor often faced only a handful of times throughout a reconstructive surgeon ’s career. Radiographic Study of the Nasal Valve in Different CT Evaluation Method in Asian Patients with Unilateral Cleft Lip Nose
ConclusionThe results of the two CT evaluation methods showed that there was a significant difference in nasal valve area on the cleft and non-cleft sides, which was significantly associated with nasal ventilation disturbance. The CT evaluation method based on standard axial 3D reconstruction is more convenient to use in the clinic, can be used for pre-surgical evaluation of nasal repair in patients with secondary nasal deformities of unilateral cleft lip, and is valuable for treatment.Level of Evidence IVThis journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. Measurement of Nasal Obstruction: Rhinomanometry as Basic Method in Functional Rhinology
Facial Plast Surg DOI: 10.1055/a-2218-5883Measuring nasal obstruction should be mandatory before every nasal surgery to determine the necessary surgical steps and to separate mucosal congestion from skeletal deformity. Rhinomanometry is considered the “golden standard” for measuring nasal airway resistance. An extension of the diagnostic power was achieved by the introduction of the four-phase rhinomanometry (4PR), which provides additional information about the influence of the elasticity of the nasal wall. Also, a high correlation to the subjective sensing of obstruction could be achieved by the introduction of logar...

Nasal Obstruction: Overview of Pathophysiology and Presentation of a Clinically Relevant Preoperative Plan for Rhino(Septo)plasty
Facial Plast Surg DOI: 10.1055/s-0043-1777850Impairment of nasal breathing is a highly prevalent and bothersome symptom that affects daily functioning and/or sleep quality. Those surgeons dealing with patients seeking rhinoplasty need to carefully analyze the preoperative nasal breathing capacity and predict the positive or even negative impact of rhino(septo)plasty on nasal breathing. Given the lack of correlation between the subjective feeling of suboptimal nasal breathing and the objective measurements of nasal flow and nasal resistance, a critical and mainly clinical evaluation of all anatomical, mucosal, and sensory m...

Comparison of nasal valve dysfunction treatment outcomes for temperature-controlled radiofrequency and functional rhinoplasty surgery: a systematic review and meta-analyses
CONCLUSIONS: TCRF treatment of the internal nasal valve for NVD was associated with sustained effects comparable to functional rhinoplasty addressing the nasal valve only, rhinoplasty without concomitant turbinate treatment, and all rhinoplasty.PMID:38217624 | DOI:10.4193/RhinRhin23.261 (Source: Rhinology)

A Retrospective Analysis of Patient Satisfaction With a Graft-Based Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Procedure Using a Modified Surgical Rhinoplasty Module
J Drugs Dermatol. 2024 Jan 1;23(1):1292-1296. doi: 10.36849/JDD.7073.ABSTRACTNon-surgical rhinoplasty, also known as liquid or injection rhinoplasty, utilizes hyaluronic acid-based fillers to offer a minimally invasive alternative to surgical rhinoplasty. Patient goals for injection rhinoplasty include improving various aspects of their nose, including the bridge of the nose, tip of the nose, shape of the nose in profile, and how well the nose suits the face. The purpose of this study is to use a modified surgical rhinoplasty questionnaire to analyze patient satisfaction and adverse complication rates of the authors' non-s...

Olfactory cleft stenosis and obstruction on paranasal sinus CT scan in pre-septo-rhinoplasty patients: normal variants or pathologic findings?
ConclusionOC partial stenosis and partial obstruction were frequent findings in pre-septorhinoplasty patients without respiratory mucosa disease and did not influence their olfactory status. Total stenosis and complete obstruction were rarer and require further investigation.Clinical relevance statementIsolated partial olfactory cleft stenosis and obstruction should be considered normal variants, whereas the impact of complete olfactory cleft stenosis and obstruction on patient ’s olfactory status remains to be determined.Key Points•The incidence of olfactory cleft stenosis and obstruction in asymptomatic patients rema...

ChatGPT and Rhinoplasty Recovery: An Exploration of AI's Role in Postoperative Guidance
This study presents the first published exploration of ChatGPT, an AI language model, as a tool for providing postoperative guidance during rhinoplasty recovery. The primary objective was to shed light on the role of ChatGPT in augmenting patient care during the critical postoperative phase. Using the Rhinobase database, standardized questions were formulated to evaluate AI-generated responses addressing pain management, swelling, bruising, and potential asymmetries. Results demonstrated that ChatGPT has the potential to enhance patient education and alleviate emotional distress by providing general information and reassur...

The Rhinoplasty Health Care Monitor: An Update on the Practical and Clinical Benefits after 10 Years of Prospective Outcome Measurements
In conclusion, routine, automated, prospective outcome monitoring provides physicians with a response to the increasing demand for data-driven insights in health outcomes. The limited effort that is needed to gather and monitor outcome data is heavily repaid by valuable insights into aspects of care that can be improved.
