Pollybeak deformity in rhinoplasty: prevention and treatment
CONCLUSIONS: We concluded that excessive supra-tip scarring is not directly related to a surgical error but rather depends on the patient and tissue healing. Care should be taken to avoid over-resecting the bony dorsum. Tip support should be provided to prevent inefficient tip support from causing an under-projected tip. However, efforts should be made to minimize supra-tip dead space and possibly proceeding pollybeak formation through proper bandaging.PMID:38639509 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202404_35898 (Source: Pharmacological Reviews)

Comparison of Different Suture Techniques on Nasal Soft Tissue Envelope to Prevent Supratip Deformity: A Histologic Study
ConclusionsIn this study, it was concluded that surgical methods using sutures in the supratip region reduced scar thickness in a rabbit model, and these surgical methods had similar levels of effectiveness. No Level AssignedThis journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each submission to which Evidence-Based Medicine rankings are applicable. This excludes Review Articles, Book Reviews, and manuscripts that concern Basic Science, Animal Studies, Cadaver Studies, and Experimental Studies. Elastic parameter identification of three-dimensional soft tissue based on deep neural network
J Mech Behav Biomed Mater. 2024 Apr 12;155:106542. doi: 10.1016/j.jmbbm.2024.106542. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn the field of virtual surgery and deformation simulation, the identification of elastic parameters of human soft tissues is a critical technology that directly affects the accuracy of deformation simulation. Current research on soft tissue deformation simulation predominantly assumes that the elasticity of tissues is fixed and already known, leading to the difficulty in populating with the elasticity measured or identified from specific tissues of real patients. Existing elasticity modeling efforts struggle ...

Advancing the Era of Liquid Rhinoplasty: A Methodological Approach to Injection Protocols
ConclusionsThe increase in non-surgical techniques for nasal refinement offers patients more options, and systematized injection protocols based on different nasal types provide a structured framework for liquid rhinoplasty.Level of Evidence IVThis journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. The Treatment of Alar Base Depression in Rhinoplasty with Diced Autologous Cartilage or Mass Cartilage: A Systematic Review
CONCLUSIONS: The results demonstrate that both diced autologous cartilage and mass cartilage techniques exhibit favorable outcomes in correcting alar base depression. Diced autologous cartilage offers better malleability, lighter border contours, and a more natural appearance. On the other hand, diced autologous cartilage seems to offer superior long-term effects, while mass cartilage presents certain surgical procedural advantages. Also, compared to diced cartilage, mass cartilage may have a lower rate of long-term resorption and a lower risk of displacement. This review emphasizes the need for personalized treatment sele...

Osteotomy Techniques in Preservation Rhinoplasty with an Analysis of a Radix –Skull Base Computed Tomography Series
This study aims to explain our experience with dorsal preservation osteotomies, focusing on transverse, lateral, and dorsal aesthetic lines (DAL) osteotomies. We describe the utilization of a variety of surgical instruments, including osteotomes, saws, burrs, and piezo. This paper describes our concept of transcutaneous ultrasonic osteotomy, microedged-specific osteotomy, applying drills for lateral wall reshaping, and integrating piezo technology to establish new DAL. Furthermore, we present a radix–skull base computed tomography series analysis to evaluate the safety of transverse and radix osteotomies. [...] Thieme Me...

Snake-shaped ePTFE nasal tip graft combined with conchal cartilage in Asian rhinoplasty: a retrospective cohort study
Lacking projection nasal tip is a common deformity of Asian nasal. Various nasal tip grafts commonly used generally require the dissecting septal perichondrium, and most of them are autologous cartilage with a non-integrated design. Snake-shaped ePTFE nasal tip graft is an integrated, stable tip graft without any additional assembly and splicing, conforming to the nasal anatomy characteristics of Asian. Evidence-Based Dynamics in Rhinoplasty
Facial Plast Surg DOI: 10.1055/a-2267-8698Rhinoplasty is a delicate surgical procedure that requires a thorough understanding of the dynamic interplay between the various structures of the nose. Any changes made to one part of the nose can have downstream effects on the overall harmony and appearance of the nose. For this reason, it is crucial for surgeons to be aware of these potential impacts in order to achieve predictable and aesthetically pleasing results. In this article, we aim to provide a summary of the current evidence-based conclusions on the dynamic influence of the radix, dorsum, tip, and ala during rhinoplast...

Economic impact analysis of a minimally invasive temperature-controlled radiofrequency device versus nasal surgery for the treatment of nasal airway obstruction in the United States
Conclusions: In patients with severe/extreme NAO, with NVC as the primary or major contributor, introducing TCRF with ITR as a treatment option demonstrates the potential for significant cost savings over functional rhinoplasty with septoplasty and ITR.PMID:38581156 | DOI:10.1080/13696998.2024.2340385 (Source: Journal of Medical Economics)
