Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 6785: Sustainable Applications of Nanopropolis to Combat Foodborne Illnesses
ilva Martins Propolis has numerous biological properties and technological potential, but its low solubility in water makes its use quite difficult. With the advent of nanotechnology, better formulations with propolis, such as nanopropolis, can be achieved to improve its properties. Nanopropolis is a natural nanomaterial with several applications, including in the maintenance of food quality. Food safety is a global public health concern since food matrices are highly susceptible to contamination of various natures, leading to food loss and transmission of harmful foodborne illness. Due to their smaller size, propolis ...

Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 6744: Comparison of the Chemical Composition and Antioxidant Properties of Propolis from Urban Apiaries
niewosz Bee products from urban apiaries are increasingly used. They are mainly used to promote local apiaries and cities in which they are located. The aim of the study was to compare the chemical composition and antioxidant activity of propolis from 6 Polish apiaries located in cities (Legionowo, Torun, Cracow, Warsaw, Katowice, Lodz). The chemical composition was analyzed using liquid chromatography (HPLC-DAD) and the analysis of antioxidant activity by scavenging free radicals (ABTS and DPPH) and FRAP. The obtained results showed the presence of 24 phenolic compounds in propolis extracts. The tested samples showed ...

Microencapsulation of bioactive compound extracts using maltodextrin and gum arabic by spray and freeze-drying techniques
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Sep 18:126969. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.126969. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMicroencapsulation techniques establish a protective barrier around a sensitive compound, reducing vulnerability to external influences and offering controlled release. This work evaluates microencapsulation of Brazilian seed known as pink pepper (Schinus terebinthifolius) extract incorporated with green propolis extract, (main propolis font from the South America native plant Baccharis dracunculifolia DC) to enhancement antioxidant activity through synergic interaction, comparing to the extracts individually. Four t...

Co-administration of Thymoquinone and Propolis in Liposomal Formulations as a Potential Approach for Treatment of Acetic Acid-Induced Ulcerative Colitis: Physiological and Histopathological Analysis
This study is aimed at assessing the potential of liposomal formulations of TQ and Egyptian PP in combination therapy on improving their therapeutic efficacy against ulcerative colitis in order to maximize the potential of their beneficial clinical effects. Clinical, biochemical, and histological evaluations of colonic mucosal damage and inflammation were evaluated. The results exhibited a significant increase in tissue MDA, TNFα, and nitrite levels with activation of caspase-3 in the acetic acid-induced colitis group, which is predominantly downregulated in the treatment groups. The prepared formulations of TQ and PP rev...

Effect of propolis on membrane bound enzymes linked with breast cancer
Bioinformation. 2022 Dec 31;18(12):1192-1195. doi: 10.6026/973206300181192. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTAccording to estimates from the World Health Organization [WHO], in 2020, 685000 people worldwide died and 2.3 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer. Breast cancer will be the most common cancer in the world by the end of 2020, when 7.8 million women will still be living who had received a diagnosis within the previous five years. The current study was formulated to note the effects of ethanolic extract of Propolis and Withaferin-A on Breast tumor initiation by benzo(a)pyrene [B(a)p], and its effects on ATPase enz...
