Injury in Starting and Replacement Players from Five Professional Men ’s Rugby Unions
ConclusionThis study demonstrated a lower injury incidence in replacement players compared with starters in the second half of matches, with a higher injury burden for replacement players due to higher mean injury severity. (Source: Sports Medicine)

Effects of perceptions of forest change and intergroup competition on community-based conservation behaviors
Conserv Biol. 2024 Apr 4:e14259. doi: 10.1111/cobi.14259. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTApproximately one quarter of the earth's population directly harvests natural resources to meet their daily needs. These individuals are disproportionately required to alter their behaviors in response to increasing climatic variability and global biodiversity loss. Much of the ever-ambitious global conservation agenda relies on the voluntary uptake of conservation behaviors in such populations. Thus, it is critical to understand how such individuals perceive environmental change and use conservation practices as a tool to protect their...

Exploring the association between weight loss-inducing medications and multiple sclerosis: insights from the FDA adverse event reporting system database
CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest a potential consideration for repurposing anti-diabetic weight loss-inducing drugs including semaglutide, dulaglutide, and liraglutide (glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists), empagliflozin (sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor), and metformin (biguanide), for MS. This warrants validation through rigorous methodologies and prospective studies.PMID:38566910 | PMC:PMC10986166 | DOI:10.1177/17562864241241383 (Source: Adv Data)

An innovative low-cost breast pump-hire program to enhance breastfeeding rates in a neonatal intensive care unit
CONCLUSION: The findings suggested that the low-cost breast pump hire program supported equitable care, increasing women's ability to provide expressed breastmilk for their infants.IMPACT: Providing access to low-cost hospital-grade breast pumps to mothers of vulnerable infants is likely to prevent poor infant clinical outcomes and improve women's care satisfaction.PUBLIC OR PATIENT CONTRIBUTION: Nil.PMID:38558479 | DOI:10.1111/jan.16180 (Source: Adv Data)

Structural and sequence analysis of the RPO30 gene of sheeppox and goatpox viruses from India
Vet Q. 2024 Dec;44(1):1-12. doi: 10.1080/01652176.2024.2331524. Epub 2024 Mar 25.ABSTRACTSheeppox and goatpox are transboundary viral diseases of sheep and goats that cause significant economic losses to small and marginal farmers worldwide, including India. Members of the genus Capripoxvirus (CaPV), namely Sheeppox virus (SPPV), Goatpox virus (GTPV), and Lumpy skin disease virus (LSDV), are antigenically similar, and species differentiation can only be accomplished using molecular approaches. The present study aimed to understand the molecular epidemiology and host specificity of SPPV and GTPV circulating in India through...

Efficiency of aqueous oleosome extraction from capsicum seeds compared to classical oil extraction
This study assesses the latter using an exergy assessment of oleosome extraction for food emulsions. The contribution of each part of the process to the overall impact was investigated. Based on current lab-scale data, oleosome extraction has nearly twice the exergy loss compared to the industrial process of oil extraction and industrial assembly of emulsions. The exergy losses of the lab-scale oleosome extraction are currently dominated by the chemical exergy associated with product loss during the separation of oleosomes from the rest of the biomass. This loss is expected to significantly decrease when upscaled to indust...

‘Damning’ FDA inspection report undermines positive trial results of possible Alzheimer’s drug
This report extends a pattern of data that lack rigor and reliability, and further undermines my confidence in any clinical trial results from this program,” says neuroscientist Matthew Schrag. The Vanderbilt University professor, who previously identified what he said were problematic data from the company and Wang, reviewed the FDA report for Science , working independently of his institution. “As I’ve said before, I think that the simufilam clinical trials should be shut down,” he concluded. FDA would not say whether its inspection findings would affect the agency’s review of the phas...

An application of psychology of working theory to chronic health issues: Importance of decent work
AbstractThis paper presents psychology of working theory (PWT) as a framework for addressing career concerns faced by those with chronic health issues. PWT is a relevant framework for contextualizing the lived experiences of clients navigating work and chronic illness. Specifically, individuals with chronic health conditions may face additional barriers to their career development and are at risk for higher incidences of workplace discrimination, job stress, and job loss. Core elements of PWT outlined in this paper are applied to a case study of a client with breast cancer. More specifically, the constructs of decent work,...
