Parasitic findings on threatened pudu deer from Central Chile accounts first genetic characterization of lice parasitizing < em > P. puda < /em > in Chile and the first molecular report of < em > Taenia hydatigena < /em > metacestodes in this species
Vet Q. 2024 Dec;44(1):1-8. doi: 10.1080/01652176.2024.2302027. Epub 2024 Jan 19.ABSTRACTSouthern pudu (Pudu puda) is a threatened endemic deer of the temperate forests of Chile. In recent years pudu populations rates have decreased mainly due to anthropogenic causes including forest loss and landscape fragmentation. In this context, the parasitic fauna of Chilean pudu has been scarcely investigated. The aim of this study was to determine the parasitic status of rescued pudu n = 13 from its natural habitat in Central Chile (Maule region) during March 2022 and June 2023 by applying morphological, histopathological, and molec...

Identifying new safety risk of human serum albumin: a retrospective study of real-world data
Conclusion: This study has revealed that HSA poses a risk of causing transfusion-related acute lung injury. It has also been observed that adverse reactions, including paraesthesia, hypertension, pulmonary oedema, loss of consciousness, and vomiting, are more prevalent in females. These findings should be taken into account when using HSA in a clinical setting. (Source: Frontiers in Pharmacology)

Assessing Associations Between Health Information Technology Maturity and Nursing Home Survey Deficiencies
J Gerontol Nurs. 2024 Jan;50(1):8-14. doi: 10.3928/00989134-20231211-01. Epub 2024 Jan 1.ABSTRACTOne in three nursing home (NH) residents experience adverse events. One strategy for safer NH care is health information technology (HIT). Two national NH surveys measuring HIT maturity were administered in 2020 (N = 719) and 2021 (N = 312). Quarterly NH survey deficiencies from the same years were linked to HIT maturity surveys. Descriptive statistics and logistic regression were used in analysis. NHs were of similar size and location, with more for-profit facilities. Most (67.5% and 61.9%, respectively) NH administrators repo...

SHM Chapter Leaders Look Forward in New Year
New years typically start with goals and preparations for things to come. We caught up with several SHM chapter leaders and asked about their chapters’ goals, what they’re looking forward to (professionally and/or personally), and what they think the biggest challenge in health care will be for 2024. Here’s what they had to share. Atlanta chapter president Mohamad Moussa, MD, SFHM Hospitalist at Emory University in Atlanta, and site director of Emory Johns Creek Hospital in Johns Creek, Ga. Dr. Moussa Chapter goals: Our goal is to expand our reach by intentionally planning meetings with academic sessions outside th...

GSE178125 Inducible degradation of the Mediator subunit Med19 reveals a dedicated role in the regulation of developmental genes expression
Contributors : Emmanuelle Guillou ; Muriel Boube ; Denis JullienSeries Type : Expression profiling by high throughput sequencingOrganism : Drosophila melanogasterIn the Drosophila wing imaginal disc, by using a inductible degradable version of Med19 degradation with RNAseq, we got access to the early consequences of Med19 depletion on gene expression. We showed that less than a quarter of the genes expressed in the wing disc were deregulated after Med19 loss. Strikingly, these genes exhibit a spatio-temporal expression pattern like transcription factors or Notch responsive genes that reveals Med19 dedicated role in the...
