IgG food hypersensitivity: A potential hidden precipitant for chronic spontaneous urticaria A case report
CONCLUSION: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report of symptoms of CSU that resolved after identifying and avoiding food items with IgG antibodies. Furthermore, well-controlled studies are advocated to verify the potential role of IgG food hypersensitivity in the pathogenesis of CSU.PMID:37422791 | DOI:10.15586/aei.v51i4.889 (Source: Allergologia et Immunopathologia)

Functionality and characterization of modified starch films with pineapple leaf fibers
The objective of this work was to modify banana starch with pineapple leaf fibers (PALF) and its production of biodegradable films. The reaction conditions of the starch modification were a Starch/PALF mass ratio of 50, a time of 1 h and a temperature of 140 °C, to obtain a yield of 41.18 %. Characterization by FTIR and NMR confirmed that the chemical reaction was carried out. XRD and TGA analysis showed that the crystalline zones of the starch were affected during the modification and the product obtained is thermally less stable compared to unmodified starch. The modified starch showed a lower pasting profile compared t...

Genome-wide mapping of DNase I hypersensitive sites in pineapple leaves
Pineapple [Ananas comosus (L.) Merr.] is the most economically important crop possessing crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) photosynthesis which has a higher water use efficiency by control of nocturnal opening and diurnal closure of stomata. To provide novel insights into the diel regulatory landscape in pineapple leaves, we performed genome-wide mapping of DNase I hypersensitive sites (DHSs) in pineapple leaves at day (2a.m.) and night (10a.m.) using a simplified DNase-seq method. As a result, totally 33340 and 28753 DHSs were found in green-tip tissue, and 29597 and 40068 were identified in white-base tissue at 2a.m. an...

2D-ReS < sub > 2 < /sub > & amp; diamond nanoparticles-based sensor for the simultaneous determination of sunset yellow and tartrazine in a multiple-pulse amperometry FIA system
We present a flow injection system with a multiple pulse amperometric detection (FIA-MPA)-based methodology for the simultaneous analysis of sunset yellow and tartrazine. As transducer, we have developed a novel electrochemical sensor based on the synergistic effect of ReS2 nanosheets and diamond nanoparticles (DNPs). Among several transition dichalcogenides for the sensor development, we have selected ReS2 nanosheets since it yields a better response towards both colourants. Scanning probe microscopy characterization shows that the surface sensor is composed by scattered and stacked ReS2 flakes and large aggregates of DNP...

Garbage Enzyme-Mediated treatment of landfill Leachate: A sustainable approach
Bioresour Technol. 2023 Jun 17:129361. doi: 10.1016/j.biortech.2023.129361. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe study evaluates the soluble chemical oxygen demand (sCOD) removal efficiency from landfill leachate by treating it with four different garbage enzymes at two temperatures (room temperature 27 ± 3 °C and higher temperature 42 ± 3 °C). The four different garbage enzymes were prepared by fermenting fruit peels such as pineapple, banana, orange, and lemon peels and treated with landfill leachate at different mixing ratios of 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%. The results show that garbage enzymes made from orange (10%) and lemo...

Inhibition of carbohydrate hydrolyzing enzymes by a potential probiotic Levilactobacillus brevis RAMULAB49 isolated from fermented Ananas comosus
The research aimed to explore the potential probiotic characteristics of Levilactobacillus brevis RAMULAB49, a strain of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) isolated from fermented pineapple, specifically focusing on its antidiabetic effects. The importance of probiotics in maintaining a balanced gut microbiota and supporting human physiology and metabolism motivated this research. All collected isolates underwent microscopic and biochemical screenings, and those exhibiting Gram-positive characteristics, negative catalase activity, phenol tolerance, gastrointestinal conditions, and adhesion capabilities were selected. Antibiotic su...

Modeling and optimizing concentration of exogenous application of γ-aminobutyric acid on NaCl-stressed pineapple mint (Mentha suaveolens) using response surface methodology: an investigation into secondary metabolites and physiological parameters
Salinity, a severe worldwide issue, compromises the economic production of medicinal plants including mints and causes drug-yield decline. γ-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a tolerance-inducing signaling bio-molec... (Source: BMC Plant Biology)

MRI-MECH: mechanics-informed MRI to estimate esophageal health
Dynamic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a popular medical imaging technique that generates image sequences of the flow of a contrast material inside tissues and organs. However, its application to imaging bolus movement through the esophagus has only been demonstrated in few feasibility studies and is relatively unexplored. In this work, we present a computational framework called mechanics-informed MRI (MRI-MECH) that enhances that capability, thereby increasing the applicability of dynamic MRI for diagnosing esophageal disorders. Pineapple juice was used as the swallowed contrast material for the dynamic MRI, and the...

Biodegradable antifungal films from nanocellulose-gellan gum incorporated with Anethum graveolens essential oil for bread packaging
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Jun 6:125244. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.125244. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBiodegradable material incorporated with antifungal essential oil has become an alternative food preservation approach to reduce plastic waste. Essential oils of Amomum testaceum, Anethum graveolens, Piper longum, Kaempferia galanga, and Zanthoxylum limonella were tested for their antifungal activity against Aspergillus niger. A. graveolens essential oil demonstrated the highest inhibition zone diameter of 43.51 mm against A. niger after seven days comparing to those obtained from other essential oils ranging from 10....
