The Effect of Total Knee Replacement on Dual-Task Gait Performance in Older Adults
CONCLUSION: The absence of an effect of TKR on gait DTCs can potentially underlie increased fall risk after TKR. Results from this study emphasize the significance of balance as a measure and focal point for rehabilitation after TKR.IMPACT: This study contributes to our understanding of the attentional cost of walking in people before and after TKR, as well as to factors associated with it. Results from this work can assist formulation of rehabilitation programs for people with knee osteoarthritis.PMID:38691445 | DOI:10.1093/ptj/pzae067 (Source: Physical Therapy)

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1758: Building a Bridge to Community: A Pragmatic Randomized Trial Examining a Combined Physical Therapy and Resistance Exercise Intervention for People after Head and Neck Cancer
Discussion: A group-based combined physiotherapeutic and lower-body resistance exercise program was feasible and effective. Findings are limited to individuals who had undergone a surgical neck dissection procedure. Given the complexity of head and neck cancer, further pragmatic interdisciplinary research is warranted. Usage of modern technologies like VR therapy, physio therapy along with levodopa in Young-Onset Parkinson's disease patients
Background: Description of the condition: Young-Onset Parkinson's disease (YOPD) usually occurs in the prime age group of the person which usually affects the life of the patient in many ways like social, economical, familial relationship of the person. It is characterized by the progressive degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the brain. While the symptoms and progression of YOPD are similar to those of later-onset Parkinson's disease, the early age of onset can present unique challenges. (Source: Parkinsonism and Related Disorders)

Effects of physiotherapy and home-based training in parkinsonian syndromes: protocol for a randomised controlled trial (MobilityAPP)
This study, registered as ‘Mobility in Atypical Parkinsonism: a Trial of Physiotherapy (Mobility_APP)’ at clinicaltrials.gov (NCT04608604), received ethics approval by local committees of the involved centres. The patient’s recruitment takes place at the Movement Disorders Units of Innsbruck (Austria), Erlangen (Germany), Lausanne (Switzerland), Luxembourg (Luxembourg) and Bolzano (Italy). The data resulting from this project will be submitted to peer-reviewed journals, presented at international congresses and made publicly available at the end of the trial. Trial registration number NCT04608604. (Source: BMJ Open)

Anti-TNF (adalimumab) injection for the treatment of pain-predominant early-stage frozen shoulder: the Anti-Freaze-Feasibility randomised controlled trial
Conclusion This study demonstrated that current NHS musculoskeletal physiotherapy settings yielded only small numbers of participants, too few to make a trial viable. This was because many patients had passed the early stage of frozen shoulder or had already formulated a preference for treatment. Trial registration number ISRCTN 27075727, EudraCT 2021-03509-23, ClinicalTrials.gov NCT05299242 (REC 21/NE/0214). (Source: BMJ Open)

The effect of graded activity and pain education after lumbar spinal fusion on sedentary behavior 3 and 12 months post-surgery: a randomized controlled trial
CONCLUSION: Compared with usual care, GAPE had no effect on short-term changes in sedentary behaviour but GAPE had a statistically, but possibly not clinically effect on sedentary behaviour 12 months after LSF. Further, the behavioural intervention was safe to perform.PMID:38685291 | DOI:10.1016/j.apmr.2024.04.005 (Source: Health Physics)

Psychological factors show limited association with the severity of Achilles tendinopathy
CONCLUSION: The study suggests that psychological factors demonstrate limited association with the severity of Achilles tendinopathy. While self-efficacy for chronic pain was weakly associated, its clinical relevance remains uncertain. Future research, particularly longitudinal studies, should explore the influence of psychosocial factors on treatment adherence and response to enhance management strategies for Achilles tendon pain.PMID:38685174 | DOI:10.1016/j.ptsp.2024.04.004 (Source: Physical Therapy)

Sleep stage prediction using multimodal body network and circadian rhythm
This study is unique in that it uses wearable devices to collect multiple parameters from subjects and uses this information to predict sleep stages and sleep patterns. For the multivariate multiclass sleep stage prediction problem, we have experimented with both memoryless (ML) and memory-based models on seven database instances, that is, five from the collected dataset and two from the existing datasets. The Random Forest classifier outclassed the ML models that are LR, MLP, kNN, and SVM with accuracy (ACC) of 0.96 and Cohen Kappa 0.96, and the memory-based model long short-term memory (LSTM) performed well on all the da...

Associations between back pain incidence, and physical activity and sedentary behaviours: A prospective cohort study with data from over 365,000 participants
CONCLUSION: Physical activity was related to a reduced risk of back pain incidence (except over-high vigorous physical activity). Substituting sedentary behaviours with physical activities reduced the risk of future back pain.PMID:38687159 | DOI:10.2519/jospt.2024.12338 (Source: Physical Therapy)

Boosting treatment outcomes via the patient-practitioner relationship, treatment-beliefs or therapeutic setting. A systematic review with meta-analysis of contextual effects in chronic musculoskeletal pain
CONCLUSION: Whilst evidence gaps exist, per current evidence it may not be possible to achieve meaningful benefit for patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain by manipulating the context of non-pharmacological and non-surgical treatments. Effect of adding Schroth physiotherapeutic scoliosis specific exercises to standard care in adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis on posture assessed using surface topography: A secondary analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT)
ConclusionSchroth Exercise treatment added to standard care (observation or bracing) reduced asymmetry measurements in AIS. As expected, a greater effect was observed for participants who followed the prescribed exercise treatment per protocol. (Source: PLoS One)

CLINICAL EFFECTS OF WALKING EXERCISE PROGRAM FOR OLDER ADULTS APPLIED WITH AN EXERCISE ASSIST ROBOT (BOT FIT): A randomized Controlled Trial
Interval walking exercise (IWE) consists of repeated walking for 3 min with high intensity, followed by 3 min of walking with low intensity. A wearable robot is an exoskeleton system that is worn on the body and helps the body move. (Source: Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies)
