Evidence-based Practice Interventions for Reducing Postoperative Pulmonary Complications: A Narrative Review
CONCLUSION: The literature review concluded that patients who received multiple interventions showed significant improvement in pulmonary function postoperatively. However, definitive studies need to be conducted to solidify this conclusion.PMID:38655075 | PMC:PMC11037507 | DOI:10.2174/012210299X247199231128100613 (Source: Respiratory Care)

Emergency Department-Based Physical Function Measures for Falls in Older Adults and Outcomes: A Secondary Analysis of GAPcare
CONCLUSIONS: Measures of function collected at the index ED visit, such as the AM-PAC 6 clicks and TUG time, may be helpful at predicting clinical outcomes for older adults presenting for a fall. Based on our study findings, we suggest a novel workflow to guide the use of these clinical measures for ED patients with falls.PMID:38656264 | DOI:10.1519/JPT.0000000000000403 (Source: Physical Therapy)

Chronic Pancreatitis-Associated Metabolic Bone Diseases: Epidemiology, Mechanisms, and Clinical Advances
Am J Physiol Endocrinol Metab. 2024 Apr 24. doi: 10.1152/ajpendo.00113.2024. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChronic pancreatitis (CP) is a progressive inflammatory disease with an increasing global prevalence. In recent years, a strong association between CP and metabolic bone diseases (MBDs), especially osteoporosis, has been identified, attracting significant attentions in the research field. Epidemiological data suggest a rising trend in the incidence of MBDs among CP patients. Notably, recent studies have highlighted a profound interplay between CP and altered nutritional and immune profiles, offering insights into its ...

Large-scale, mobile and technology-enhanced serious game for interprofessional education: pilot study and lessons learnt
This report describes the design and pilot testing of a large-scale, mobile, technology-enhanced serious game embedded in the IPE curriculum in Geneva, Switzerland. Organized into teams of eight, the students were tasked with finding a young patient who had just escaped from the intensive care unit. Through a series of 10 stations, they explored hospital- and community-based locations of the healthcare system and were engaged in various learning and game activities; they were rewarded with cues to unveil the mystery. A total of 582 undergraduate students from seven disciplines (medicine, midwifery, nursing, nutrition-diete...
