Clinical outcomes of conservative versus surgical treatment for patients with proximal humeral fracture before physiotherapy
This study aimed to compare kinesiophobia, pain, range of motion (ROM), shoulder function, and Quality of life (QoL) in patients treated with either conservative (CT) versus surgical (ST) after PHF. In addition, it aimed to determine correlations between fear of movement and seconder outcome measures. This cross-sectional study enrolled the patients having 5-6 weeks (being permitted active movement) after being treated either CT or ST and receiving no physical therapy. Pain, passive and active ROMs, shoulder function, fear of movement, and QoL were evaluated. 42 patients were recruited. Kinesiophobia scores were similar (p...

Feasibility of exergaming for upper extremity rehabilitation in people with multiple sclerosis: prospective clinical trial
ConclusionThese results showed that our custom-made exergaming scenario could be feasible in upper extremity rehabilitation in MS. More research is needed to investigate its effectiveness in the rehabilitation of upper limbs. (Source: Acta Neurologica Belgica)

Effectiveness of photobiomodulation therapy in the treatment of patients with an ankle sprain: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionPBMT is quite effective for patients with an ankle sprain. PBMT showed high effect size with a moderate level of evidence on pain intensity. The lack of significant effects of PBMT on function and edema with low level of evidence limit the confidence to the current results and recommend further large high-quality studies with higher PBMT intensity and fluency for standardisation of the irradiation parameters and treatment protocol.RegistrationPROSPERO registration number (CRD42021292930). Investigating Cervical Flexion-Relaxation Ratio in Subjects with Cervical Lateral Spinal Stenosis Compared with Asymptomatic Controls: a case control study
The cervical flexion-relaxation ratio (FRR) is known as a quantitative measure of the ability of the cervical extensor muscles to relax during the full flexion of the cervical spine. Compared with subjects suffering from non-specific neck pain, the changes occurring in the pattern of the neck muscles' functions in cases with cervical spinal stenosis are not yet well understood. Therefore, this study aimed to compare cervical FRR in subjects with cervical lateral spinal stenosis and asymptomatic controls. (Source: Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies)

Acute pleurisy mimicking neck pain in a young volleyball player: a case report
CONCLUSION: This case report highlights the importance of screening for serious pathology in direct access physiotherapy, irrespective of a prior physician consultation.PMID:38661029 | DOI:10.1080/09593985.2024.2336103 (Source: Physiotherapy Theory and Practice)

The incidence of floorball injuries-A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: The incidence of floorball injuries is high, especially among women. When considering the growing popularity of floorball, these pooled incidences serve as reference values for future injury prevention programs.PMID:38663160 | DOI:10.1016/j.ptsp.2024.04.003 (Source: Physical Therapy)

Inspiratory Muscle Training in Patients Living with Chronic Kidney Disease and Receiving Hemodialysis: Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
CONCLUSIONS: IMT improves MIP, MEP, and functional capacity in people living with CKD and receiving HD. IMT did not demonstrate significant results for lung function and quality of life. Effects on endothelial function and oxidative capacity remain uncertain.IMPACT: Inspiratory muscle training improves MIP, MEP, and functional capacity in people living with CKD and receiving HD, compared with conventional physical therapy or controls or placebo intervention. Increases in functional capacity in this population are extremely important because of the relationship with the survival of these people.PMID:38662569 | DOI:10.1093/p...

Effect of Menstrual Cycle Phase on Perceived Exertion During Aerobic Exercise in Eumenorrheic Women: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: The current meta-analysis showed that MC does not impact RPE. Although acute RPE is not impacted by MC phases, future studies and practitioners should pay attention to the impact of RPE session by session throughout the MC.PMID:38659609 | PMC:PMC11042688 (Source: Physical Therapy)
