Assessing the benefits of an online prematriculation anatomy workshop on knowledge acquisition and anatomy competency in a Doctor of Physical Therapy program
Adv Physiol Educ. 2024 Jun 1;48(2):347-355. doi: 10.1152/advan.00053.2023.ABSTRACTPreparing students for the transition to graduate-level education with greater learning demands in a condensed time frame is a challenging process for health professions educators and incoming students. Prematriculation programs offer a solution for exposing students to the foundational sciences in preparation for the academic rigor of a doctoral program. This retrospective study assessed whether incoming students enrolled across 3 yr of a 2-day online anatomy workshop, offered in July and August before the start of their first semester resul...

Unlocking Patient Voices: Advancing Physical Therapist Practice with Discrete Choice Experiments
This article addresses the importance of eliciting patient preferences as part of person-centered care in the value-based space, the challenges faced in preference measurement in physical therapy, and how the discrete choice experiment can alleviate some of those challenges. It also provides examples of the discrete choice experiment in health care and suggests ways in which it can be effectively used in physical therapist practice to improve the delivery of meaningful rehabilitation services to patients. Implementing greater use of the DCE in physical therapy can improve person-centered physical therapist service delivery...

LGBTQIA+ Cultural Competence in Physical Therapist Education and Practice: A Qualitative Study from the Patients' Perspective
CONCLUSION: An LGBTQIA+ patient's experience is influenced by the provider cultural acceptance, and the resulting power dynamics that impact LGBTQIA+ patients' comfort, trust, and perceptions of care. Enhanced patient experiences were found more prevalent with providers that possessed elevated levels of education or experience with this community, supporting Campinha-Bacote's assumption that there is a direct relationship between level of competence in care and effective and culturally responsive service.IMPACT: Awareness of the underlying issues presented in these themes will assist in the development of effective solutio...

Can resistance training improve throwing performance in handball players? A Systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionStrong evidence exists only for the effectiveness of RT using barbells in increasing throwing velocity. In contrast, the remaining RT modalities, while yielding positive results, have limited support due to limited number of studies and the high heterogeneity between studies. Furthermore, there is insufficient evidence to support various forms of RT in increasing throw distance. Finally, medicine ball training and elastic band training demonstrated no benefits in improving throwing accuracy.Trial registrationPROSPERO ID: CRD42023393574. Factorial analysis of the Brazilian-Portuguese version of the Work Ability Index, reproducibility and validity of the single item and the short version for online application
CONCLUSION: The reliability and construct and concurrent validity of the various versions of the WAI were strong to excellent in online applications. Confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated a new grouping of items for the WAI Brazilian version. However, it is necessary to be careful in the choice due to the distribution model of items in health domains and aspects of work.PMID:38613967 | DOI:10.1016/j.bjpt.2024.101060 (Source: Physical Therapy)
