Percutaneous tendon dry needling and thrust manipulation as an adjunct to multimodal physical therapy in patients with lateral elbow tendinopathy: A multicenter randomized clinical trial
CONCLUSIONS: The inclusion of percutaneous tendon electrical dry needling and thrust manipulation into a multimodal program of exercise, mobilization and ultrasound was more effective than multimodal physical therapy alone in individuals with lateral elbow tendinopathy.Trial Registration: www.clinicaltrials.gov NCT03167710 May 30, 2017.PMID:38676324 | DOI:10.1177/02692155241249968 (Source: Clinical Rehabilitation)

Clinical outcomes of conservative versus surgical treatment for patients with proximal humeral fracture before physiotherapy
This study aimed to compare kinesiophobia, pain, range of motion (ROM), shoulder function, and Quality of life (QoL) in patients treated with either conservative (CT) versus surgical (ST) after PHF. In addition, it aimed to determine correlations between fear of movement and seconder outcome measures. This cross-sectional study enrolled the patients having 5-6 weeks (being permitted active movement) after being treated either CT or ST and receiving no physical therapy. Pain, passive and active ROMs, shoulder function, fear of movement, and QoL were evaluated. 42 patients were recruited. Kinesiophobia scores were similar (p...

Patients' perspective of fast-track total joint arthroplasty: a systematic review
Acta Orthop Belg. 2024 Mar;90(1):115-122. doi: 10.52628/90.1.12623.ABSTRACTThe introduction of fast-track protocols decreased length of hospital stay and improved rehabilitation and outcomes in total joint arthroplasty. Despite improved clinical results published in many papers, the patient perspective of these protocols is less investigated. Purpose of this study was to explore the patient perspective of fast-track protocols in arthroplasty. A systematic search for articles of patient experiences in total hip, knee, and shoulder arthroplasty was conducted using EMBASE, MEDLINE, Cochrane, and Web-of-Science for articles pu...

Unraveling attrition and retention: A qualitative study with rehabilitation professionals
CONCLUSION: Findings underscore a critical need to address contributing factors to attrition and retention which are essential to ensuring the availability of OTs, PTs and SLPs for present and future rehabilitation needs.PMID:38669505 | DOI:10.3233/WOR-230531 (Source: Work)

Dental practitioners' knowledge, management practices, and attitudes toward collaboration in the treatment of temporomandibular joint disorders: a mixed-methods study
CONCLUSIONS: The study successfully validated a questionnaire to understand dental practitioners' knowledge regarding physical therapy in TMD treatment. The study identified significant gaps in knowledge and a lack of collaboration between dentists and physiotherapists. The limited referral practices highlighted in the study, along with insights from dentist interviews, emphasize the need for improved interdisciplinary approaches to managing TMDs within dental practice.PMID:38671353 | DOI:10.1186/s12875-024-02398-1 (Source: Primary Care)
