Chad's Organic chem chapters that can be skipped?
Hey future doctors! Does anyone know if certain sections from Chad's Prep (Organic chemistry section) can be skipped/eliminated from studying? Looking at the OAT 2020 guide, I see 2 chapters covered in Chad's Prep that aren't explicitly listed in the OAT guide to be tested on: Chapter 16: Conjugated Pi Systems and Pericyclic Reactions Chapter 22: Amines Anyone else using Chad's for Ochem review skip these or other chapters that I am missing as well... Organic chem next week and 7 mos pregnant
I’ve been knocking out my pre reqs very successfully so far. I have a toddler, and one on the way. I can’t believe I didn’t really think about this but the organic lab, which will be in micro scale, begins next week and I’ve only just realized what that could mean, teratogen wise. Anyone done this pregnant? If I wear an n95, gloves and covered head to toe clothing wise plus the vent hood should I be okay? There’s literally only 2 other people in the lab- Bc of covid no one signed up. So I... Organic chem next week and 7 mos pregnant (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Should I take the MCAT?
For context, I am a high school senior (ORM) who has competed in numerous Olympiads earning top scores in most: USABO, USNCO, USAPhO. In the past, I went to many AoPS WOOTs (Chem and Physics). From these olympiads and along with my full set of AP Classes (including psychology), I have a solid understanding in biology, physics, chemistry, parts of biochem and organic chem, psychology and sociology (my only non-AP class). I have taken many practice test (NextStep, AAMC Fls, Kaplan, etc.) and... Should I take the MCAT? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Drop a class or get a C?
Hi there - I'm currently in a summer physics 2 course. I am not doing too well in it, so I've been debating on continuing (and, probably getting a C) or dropping the class? I understand that dental schools do not like to see too many C's or drops, so I just wanted to know which is worse. My advisor once mentioned that you don't want to show a pattern of drops, but I only dropped organic chemistry I (but, ended up with an A when retaking the class). Overall, it was only one instance, so I... Drop a class or get a C? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Applications - Explaining Difficulties
I have come across the question of where I am asked to explain any deficiencies in my application (MCAT or transcript). In my 2nd year, I didn't do too well in organic chemistry. Part of it was my friend committed suicide, and the other part was me overestimating my abilities at the time (I had a really heavy course load). Do I mention both? I was obviously less mature then than I am now, so I wasn't sure if I should expand on that too. Thanks! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Ideal resources for a video learner?
Good morning SDN, I realized I have such difficulty learning from textbooks and learn more optimally through videos and clear explanations such a UWorld(from the free trial they offer). I took bio and chem almost 8 years ago, and bought the EK books to review. However, I realize its still hard to grasp some of the concepts. Has anyone used KA, Leah4sci(Youtube), Organic Chemistry Tutor(Youtube) successfully for content review? Or is there another video resource you can recommend. I... Organic Chemistry Lab
For the last year and a half, I've been in a DIY post-bacc at a standard public university. I'm currently completing a year of organic chemistry over the summer - but I'm not taking either lab. In the fall, the university is moving to a hybrid between online lectures and in-person labs. I've also been unable to obtain any type of research, volunteering positions, or even physician shadowing. I've decided it's best if I go 100% online and reserve the possibility of moving anywhere I wish... Organic Chemistry Lab (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Do I even have a chance?
Hey everyone! I just want to give some background first: I'm a black male that graduated from undergrad about 2 years ago, and I started as a premed student. I was the typical naive premed Freshman that was in school for a Biology degree. I took Organic Chem. a total of 5 times(OChem l- 3 times (C), OChem(W)), I also made an F in Genetics both times I took it, an F in Micro., a C in Phys. l, and I didn't take Phys. ll or BioChem. I was working a job that paid a lot of money while in... Do I even have a chance? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Non-Science Major Question
Hello! I am currently pursuing a double major with one being Biochemistry and the other being a humanities major. In order to fit everything, I pretty much used AP credits for the basic science course (calc, bio, chem, phys). I have taken organic, first semester of biochem, lab courses, statistics, and plan to take classes like astronomy, cell biology, neuroscience, and possibly genetics by the time I apply. Upon conducting research on this matter, I have found that medical schools want a... Non-Science Major Question (Source: Student Doctor Network)

"Life science" Letters of Recommendation
So VCU says they want "Two letters from life science professors who have had the candidate as a student" At first I thought this was only biology, but I have a good letter from my organic prof that I also did research with that I would love to use if possible. O-chem isn't considered a life science is it? I didn't think so, but thought I'd get a second opinion if there are any, then maybe contact the school. Thanks! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Organic Chemistry question. Is this class acceptable?
This is the only class offered at a college near me. I am unable to go back to my university due to covid. Would this class be acceptable? I wonder because it says "fundamental" Although its the only course they offer leading to their "biochemistry" course. " Chemistry 2401K: Fundamental Organic Chemistry I CHEM 2401K 3-3-4. Prerequisite: CHEM 1212K with a grade of C or better. Reactions, methods of preparation and physical properties of organic compounds with emphasis on modern... Organic Chemistry question. Unsure of my next steps
Hey Everyone! I just graduated and I made the decision to pursue veterinary school. In this lost I am looking to get a little direction on the courses that I still should take. I have taken the full biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, and physics sequences. Additional I have taken a calculus course and a biochemistry course. I have taken a psychology statistics course, but I will probably end up taking a statistics course through the math department. Other than these courses... Is it a smart idea to keep pursuing a premed track if you are too stupid for premed classes as evidenced by your grades and this path has given you li
**Disclaimer: Wrote this when I was very emotional and pissed.** Long story short, I’m 21 now, but I’ve wanted to be a doctor since I was 10 or so, of my own accord, mostly. No family pressure or anything like that. I started off at Berkeley as a molecular and cellular biology major but struggled a lot in Organic Chemistry 1, earning a B-minus, the lowest grade I’ve ever earned in my life. What made it worse is that I knew a handful of people who excelled in the class (A’s) whereas I... Help with school list (3.70 cGPA/518 MCAT/business background)
Hi all, Would really appreciate some insight into my schools list as I have a nontraditional background so it's hard to get a gauge of where I stand. cGPA: 3.70 / sGPA: 3.53 (both upward trends, I did withdraw from organic chem and take the class at a later date) MCAT: 518 Major(s): Biology, economics Undergraduate institution: private T-25, graduated 2019 Residence: California Ethnicity + gender: Asian female Shadowing: Neurology, emergency medicine, neonatology (80 hours - cut short...
