Unsure about being Premed
I've actually have pretty decent stats overall, and I've made it through most of the weed-out classes like organic chemistry and I've also been on an upward GPA trend. However, I am unsure whether or not I actually want to pursue medicine. I've been fortunate enough to shadow a psychiatrist these past few weeks and while I find medicine extremely interesting, I'm not sure if I would like to spend another 7+ years in order to make a stable income. I'm sort of curious, what solidified your... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

The Berkeley Review - Organic - Example 1.16
Hi everyone, I could use some insight onto this example problem from The Berkeley Review (TBR) Organic chemistry book. This is in Chapter 1 (Molecular Structure). The question is simple: What is observed when histidine is protonated on its side chain? My thought process: so, this is in reference to amino acid that has an amide group (NH) and an imine grounp (N double bonded). I'm thinking about the role of steric hindrance and resonance that may be occurring here when we are adding a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Retaking prerequisite science courses
How do medical schools view an applicant who first got a C in only one science course (organic chemistry in particular) and retook it and got an A? I've heard that getting a C and then retaking and getting an A is not impressive, but that does not make sense to me, especially considering it's only one course. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Orgo I, Microbiology, and Anatomy in 1 semester?
For the fall of 2020, I am scheduled to take organic I, gen. microbiology, and human anatomy, each with its own laboratory. Am I possibly making a mistake? This past semester I took cell biology, gen chem 2, and nutrition, and had no issues with As in each. Should I just shoulder the load, or replace one of these classes with physics 2? Thank you in advance. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Should I take another semester of science courses and re-take 1yr of General Chemistry?
I graduated from college almost 2 years ago but I've been doing a DIY post-bacc among working and other things. I'm currently taking 3 courses this semester but in 8-week sessions. Anatomy & Physiology 1 (4 credits) just finished a few days ago and I got an A (4.0). Now I have Anatomy & Physiology 2 (4 credits) and Organic Chemistry 2 (4 credits). In undergrad, I got a C in General Chemistry 1 lecture (3 credits) and a B+ in the lab (1 credit). In General Chemistry 2 I got a C+ (4 credits)... Do I have hope?
Hello everyone! I just wanted to know if you think I have a chance of getting accepted this cycle. I completed my optometry application in mid-Aug. I wrote my OAT in Sept and did extremely horrible (260 ouch). I suck at organic chemistry and it plummeted my score. I even bought the Kaplan self-paced course and textbook. Here are my sad scores: RC: 280 GC: 290 QR: 270 Physics: 240 Bio: 250 OC: 210 TS: 240 AA: 260 I had my interview with Salus and MCPHS in Sept. After 3 weeks, MCPHS... Do I have hope? WAMC: Applying DO This Cycle; Help With School List
Hello Everyone! For quite some time I have been planning on applying next cycle. But after receiving my MCAT score a few people have told me that I should just try to apply DO this cycle. I do not have a preference of location whatsoever. I am currently taking an extra semester now just to boost my GPA a little. GPA: 3.1sGPA ~3.15cGPA. I have a strong upward trend, as I did quite poorly my Freshman year. By the end of this semester I should be around a 3.2 for both. I will be... Question Concerning Prereqs
For context I am currently a structural engineer. Graduated with a 3.85 GPA and have all the typical prereqs completely conincidentally apart from Organic Chemistry. I took AP Bio ~7 years ago and received a 5 for the course. I was wondering if this was a course I should retake. I have the discipline to follow online lectures and self study to get myself back up to speed, especially if it means I can save $. If I go the self-study route do you foresee that causing issues in the admissions... Question Concerning Prereqs (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Low Gpa/need help
Hi, I am currently thinking about joining a program that specializes in helping people create timelines, studying for the MCAT (modules given), and assistance with getting through the entire medical school process. The problem is the cost is $4,500. While I think it's a good investment I don't know if how reasonable that price truly is. So my cGPA is 3.18 and my sGPA is a 2.5 and I am currently a senior. The remaining science classes that I need to graduate are Organic Chemistry 1 and... Low Gpa/need help (Source: Student Doctor Network)

MD/PhD - Organic Synthesis
Would it be possible for one to get into a MD/PhD program specifically in an organic chemistry synthesis lab, without a chemistry bachelors degree? I graduated with a degree in molecular biology and a minor in chemistry for reference. Thanks in advance! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

I think I'm a mixed bag
Pros - 1. Retail Pharmacist for 14 years 2. Worked as a paramedic 20 years ago and before that an ER tech and EMT Basic 3. 3.7 GPA over 264 credit hours (Science has to be higher because I only got lower grades from A holes during clinical rotations) 4. Former organic chem TA and A&P TA 5. I want to work rural primary care, rural ER or addiction medicine. There is a shortage. Neutral - 1. 46 years old but high energy Cons - 1. To withdraw or not to withdraw
Current GPA: 4.0 Major: Mathematics Community college student Current classes: Calculus 3, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Gen Chemistry 2 (total of 16 units) Pre-med classes to take: 2 Organic Chem classes, 2 Bio classes, 2 Physics classes, electives(to transfer) I don't think it's probable that I get an A on any of my classes. Realistically the best case scenario is for me getting a C on all of them. I'm freaking exhausted with studying and just to get by I use all of my time... Organic Chemistry I Course Needed
Hey! I'm seeking to take organic chem I this fall semester, most likely under the "2nd 8-week" division of courses that colleges/universities have (but it can be any course this fall semester that will have either started soon or has started just recently). My schedule for the winter interim session is already quite full along with the spring semester, which is why I'm seeking a course to complete this fall semester. I did not plan to do organic chem earlier as a full-semester course due to... Organic Chemistry I Course Needed (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Online Courses During the Pandemic
Hey, I was just wondering over whether online courses in the sciences for med schools would be ok with them given the pandemic's effect on the classroom environment. I'm a relatively new member of SDN so I do not know if this has been discussed before in previous threads. Maybe whether or not online courses for organic chem, micro, genetics, and the rest of the major science courses that are either required or recommended depends on a case by case basis? In my case, I'm trying to register... Online Courses During the Pandemic (Source: Student Doctor Network)
