Metabolic changes and retinal remodeling in Heterozygous CRX mutant cats (CRX < sup > RDY/+ < /sup > )
This study investigated retinal remodeling that occurs as photoreceptors degenerate. CRXRdy/+ cats from 6 weeks to 10 years of age were investigated. In vivo structural changes of retinas were analyzed by fundus examination, confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscopy and spectral domain optical coherence tomography. Histologic analyses including immunohistochemistry for computational molecular phenotyping with macromolecules and small molecules. Affected cats had a cone-led photoreceptor degeneration starting in the area centralis. Initially there was preservation of inner retinal cells such as bipolar, amacrine and horizontal...

A novel stop-gain < em > NF1 < /em > variant in neurofibromatosis type 1 and bilateral optic atrophy without optic gliomas
CONCLUSIONS: A patient with NF1 without OPGs developed bilateral optic atrophy and carried a novel de novo stop-gain variant of NF1. Although the relationship between NF1 variants and bilateral optic atrophy remains unclear, further investigations are required.PMID:37599594 | DOI:10.1080/13816810.2023.2245464 (Source: Ophthalmic Genetics)

In Vivo Detection of Retinal Ganglion Cell Stress in Rodents with DARC
Methods Mol Biol. 2023;2708:123-129. doi: 10.1007/978-1-0716-3409-7_13.ABSTRACTDARC (detection of apoptosing retinal cells) uses fluorescently tagged Annexin A5 to identify retinal apoptosis non-invasively in vivo using a confocal laser scanning ophthalmoscope (cSLO). This can provide insights into the presence and progression of disease pathology and the efficacy of neuroprotective intervention. The methods of administration, imaging, and quantification of DARC, including the operation of the cSLO, are described here.PMID:37558966 | DOI:10.1007/978-1-0716-3409-7_13 (Source: Mol Biol Cell)

Confocal Scanning Laser Ophthalmoscopy to Image Retinal Ganglion Cells in Real-Time
Methods Mol Biol. 2023;2708:115-121. doi: 10.1007/978-1-0716-3409-7_12.ABSTRACTReal-time imaging of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) provides an opportunity for detailed investigation of retinal development, disease mechanisms, and the evaluation of interventions affecting ocular structures. Here we use a transgenic model to describe a step-by-step protocol for visualizing RGC survival in real-time by using confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscopy (cSLO).PMID:37558965 | DOI:10.1007/978-1-0716-3409-7_12 (Source: Mol Biol Cell)

Evaluation of Uveitis Induced in Rats by a Type I Collagen Peptide as a Model for Childhood Arthritis-associated Uveitis
In this study, we evaluated MAA-induced uveitis in rats as a potential model for JIA-uveitis. We characterizedMAA-induced uveitis by assessing its relationship to age and sex; tracking the occurrence of arthritis, enthesitis, and ANApositivity; and measuring vitreous fluid inflammatory biomarkers. Juvenile and adult and male and female Lewis rats (Rattusnorvegicus) were inoculated with MAA. Slit-lamp biomicroscopy, indirect ophthalmoscopy, and joint examinations wereperformed 3 times weekly. Rats were euthanized at 4 wk after MAA inoculation, and plasma ANA testing, vitreous inflammatorybiomarker assays, and globe histopat...
