What to do about petty nurse
There’s a nurse I regularly work with who recently started having a petty beef with me and is calling me by my first name without asking. I’m going to confront her on this next time we’re working together, but I anticipate she’ll refuse to play ball. What’s the next step in that case? While it’s ridiculously annoying, it doesn’t feel quite severe enough to bring up with my medical director. I’m a new attending and haven’t encountered this situation before. Is Hospital Volunteering a Necessary Clinical Experience?
Hello. I was thinking more about experiences and wanted to ask a question I haven't been able to wring an answer out of the search results yet: Do you feel traditional hospital volunteering a necessary clinical experience? I have hours in hospice (nursing facilities) and free pop-up clinics, so I have insight into healthcare, patients, and how physicians and other healthcare practitioners can make a difference in people's lives. Still, none of these opportunities are in a traditional... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Supervising NP- does it normally take this long?
I signed a contract last year with a company that is affiliated with one of the places that I work to supervise a nurse practicitoner. I knew they had not yet hired one and I would be involved in the hiring process. This was last July. I interviewed one candidate who made it to the “final interview”, but they never told me what happened with her and I guess it didn’t work out. I am now getting emails to interview 3 new candidates, one of which her bio says won’t be credentialed fully until... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Performance improvement plan, may get fired? Advice.
Am IM hospitalist rural midwest. Have not been at my job very long but have been having constant issues with nurses, APPs, to the point that two nurses were recently fired and I was placed on a performance improvement plan (PIP). The goals seem reasonable, but doing some research it seems as though a PIP is the first step toward being fired, so I want to know if anyone has experience in having a PIP, if this means I am for certain going to get fired or if I can come back from this, and... Dentist vs Travel Nurse
Hello everyone. I got recently accepted into dental school but I've been looking into this travel nurse thing. It would only be 1 more year of schooling rather than 4 years, and a lot less expensive and difficult. The salary of a travel nurse is anywhere from 80k to 200k from what I've read. So the pay doesn't really seem much different from a dentist's. Can someone please chime in? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Occasional optho coverage
I'm friends with the nurse manager of a local optho center. She's asked if I can cover a few days a month when they can't get a CRNA. They've offered to either let me do my own billing or suggest an hourly rate. This would be a 1099 deal and I would need my own malpractice coverage. I've never worked on my own like this so I'd love some advice on how to get this going properly. Specifically, what information would I need to decide between billing myself or taking an hourly rate? I'm... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
