Is Anyone Doing Total Contact Casts?
I feel like a lot of the time a total contact cast is the only thing that will work in the patient that does not want to face the fact that if they continue to walk their wound will note heal. I recently closed a wound that had been opened about a year (on a former nurse) in about 6 weeks with a TCC. After it was closed I recommended referral to the nearest residency program for a charcot reconstruction (sub cuboid ulcer) or live in a CROW walker. She fought with me stating she never had a... Clinical Experience or Not
So I’m working registration in the ED and I wanted to know if it’s considered clinical experience or not. I work in triage in the ED with the nurse and patient care technician. I get patients registered, give them armbands, and help them into wheelchairs sometimes. I sometimes go into the patients room to verify information about their insurance or demographic information. I go in the back to ask nurses or doctors if a patient comes to me with a question. I also help the nurses with... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

MDI for bronchospasm
Probably dumb question, but I couldn’t quickly find a lot of literature about it, gave up quickly due to me being a bit ADHD. Had a female smoker for routine Ortho bronchospasm on induction. It was pretty manageable after deepening anesthetic and some albuterol puffs down the ETT. For a lot of these players who spasm, I give subq terbutaline after it saved my ass once (I think). Usually give decadron too if indicated. When I was squirting albuterol down the tube, the OR nurse chimed in and... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Career-changer vs. Academic Enhancer for nontraditional applicant
Hi All! I am a non-traditional applicant hoping to apply to medical school after a post-bacc. I feel I need to give a little background before I ask my question. I have a degree in biochemistry and completed all my premed prerequisites over 15 years ago. I did 7+ years of clinical research at a School of Medicine in various departments (cardiothoracic surgery, cardiology, family and preventive medicine). Then I went to nursing school (I had kids). I have been a nurse for almost 10... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

getting paid for nursing home patients?
hello all, I'm looking for some advice. I have a friend who has a billing company that kinda specializes in nursing home care. We partnered up and I have taken on quite a few patients in about 4 or 5 homes. We have been going on for about a month. My only hang up, is that I am not familiar with the logistics in this space. billing aside, How are docs usually compensated in these scenarios? The staff is usually calling me and I have to do all these orders and mindless paperwork, but I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

EMR/EHR experiences.
Which EMR do you use and what are the pros and cons? Hospital vs private practice? Here is my limited knowledge. Athena - takes 8% in billing. It took a couple weeks to get used to all the clicking. Not an intuitive design. I don't know monthly cost. NextGen - This was easy to use for nursing home work. Avg note time 1-5 mins. I do not know its monthly cost nor billing options. CPRS - This is used by the VA system so its free. Lots and lots of clicking but everything was free for... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

The other big question … how much revenue are you generating?
Other than the big question of salary the number that better reflects how podiatrists are doing is revenue. It was briefly discussed in the other thread and better reflects this magical “potential” in podiatry that might not exist as a nurse or PA etc. So I’m just throwing it out there… How much? What volume? What state are you in? Do you feel fairly compensated? Trending up or down? Are you happy? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

RN seeking MD/DO/IMG options. In need of advice.
Hey everyone, this is my first post on these forums. This isn't something I would normally do, but a friend recommended I read through the site and potentially discuss my situation. I am currently a 29-year old male practicing as a registered nurse in a level 2 trauma center in Florida. I work in a neuro/trauma ICU more specifically so my background is caring for some of the most critical patient populations. I entered nursing as a second-degree seeker after realizing I had no further... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
