Path to becoming a psychotherapist
Hi,
I am currently planning my career with the final end goal of becoming a licensed psychotherapist. I'm planning to get my ADN and becoming a registered nurse. Then work for a year, get some experience and do travel nursing. I'm interested in majority of the nursing specialties, but mental health nursing seems the most attractive to me (comparing to other nursing specialties), so I'm probably going to pursue that. After that happens I have a couple choices:

Military Plans to Replace Physicians With Self Aid/Buddy Care
They finally listened to me! In the only editorial I was able to get published in U.S. Medicine (Issue 88, June, 2006, no longer online), I predicted that a nurse would be appointed Surgeon General of a military department. My final paragraph stated the following:

Alternatives to Residency
I like the science of medicine, diagnosing things, and developing treatment plans. I also love talking to patients. But clinical year has not been enjoyable. The hierarchy, the gunner classmates, the anxiety over grading, the angry nurses and scrub techs, the turf wars, the long hours, and seeing patients fall through the cracks, make me feel somewhat disillusioned. Most of the residents I've worked with are nice, but they seem to be miserable. I'm not sure I want to sign up for 4 (or more)...

Is it happening?
What will job options be like if NPs and PAs take over chiropody?
Although we are trained too long for chiropody it does provide jobs (even if a plan B) in a saturated job market.
Does our license allow us to have PAs and NPs under us doing this? I imagine not in most states.
People claim NPs and PAs will not take these jobs, but if they do will podiatry have negative job growth?

Is this unethical?
Is it immoral to ask ur inpatient nurses for low doses of commonly prescribed second generations and first generation antipsychotics like haldol or abilify 5 in order to understand what exactly I'm giving my patients . There's something icky about the idea of being given meds that aren't prescribed but my intention isn't abuse either obviously , I just feel llke I want to know what it is I'm giving , like truly .
