Programmed Iteration Controls the Assembly of the Nonanoic Acid Side Chain of the Antibiotic Mupirocin
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2022 Oct 13. doi: 10.1002/anie.202212393. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMupirocin is a clinically important antibiotic produced by Pseudomonas fluorescens NCIMB 10586 that is assembled by a complex trans-AT polyketide synthase. The polyketide fragment, monic acid, is esterified by a 9-hydroxynonanoic acid (9HN) side-chain which is essential for biological activity. The ester side-chain assembly is initialised from a 3-hydroxypropionate (3HP) starter unit attached to the acyl carrier protein (ACP) MacpD, but the fate of this species is unknown. Here we report the application of NMR, mass spectrometry...

GSE201383 Subinhibitory Concentrations of Antibiotics Alter the Response of Klebsiella pneumoniae to Components of Innate Host Defense
In conclusion, mupirocin causes changes inthe K. pneumoniae transcriptome that likely contribute to the observed decrease in serumsusceptibility via a multifactorial process. Whether these responses are triggered by othercomponents of host defense or therapeutics that were not tested here merits further investigation. (Source: GEO: Gene Expression Omnibus)

Pre-surgical Nasal Decolonization of < em > Staphylococcus aureus: < /em > A Health Technology Assessment
CONCLUSIONS: Based on the best evidence available, decolonization of S. aureus using nasal mupirocin combined with chlorhexidine body wash prior to cardiothoracic, vascular, orthopaedic, gastrointestinal, or general surgery lowers the incidence of surgical site infection caused by S. aureus in patients who are S. aureus carriers (including methicillin-susceptible and methicillin-resistant strains) (i.e., targeted decolonization). However, nasal mupirocin alone may result in little to no difference in overall surgical site infections and S. aureus-related surgical site infections in pre-surgical patients prior to orthopaedi...
