Direct oral anticoagulants for the treatment of splanchnic vein thrombosis: A state of art
World J Gastroenterol. 2023 Sep 7;29(33):4962-4974. doi: 10.3748/wjg.v29.i33.4962.ABSTRACTSplanchnic vein thrombosis (SVT) is a manifestation of venous thromboembolism in an unusual site. Portal, mesenteric, and splenic veins are the most common vessels involved in SVT which occurs mainly in patients with liver cirrhosis, although non-cirrhotic patients could be affected as well. Thrombosis of hepatic veins, also known as Budd-Chiari syndrome, is another manifestation of SVT. Prompt diagnosis and intervention are mandatory in order to increase the recalization rate and reduce the risk of thrombus progression and hypertensi...

Dosimetric impact of MLC positional errors on dose distribution in IMRT
This study investigates dose sensitivity variations and complexity metrics of MLC positional error in volumetric modulated arc therapy and determines the acceptable ranges of MLC positional accuracy in several clinical situations. Treatment plans were generated for four treatment sites (prostate cancer, lung cancer, spinal, and brain metastases) using different treatment planning systems (TPSs) and fraction sizes. Each treatment plan introduced 0.25-2.0 mm systematic or random MLC leaf bank errors. The generalized equivalent uniform dose (gEUD) sensitivity and complexity metrics (MU/Gy and plan irregularity) were calculate...

A comparison of measured and treatment planning system out-of-field dose for a 1.5 T MR linac
Phys Med Biol. 2023 Sep 12. doi: 10.1088/1361-6560/acf912. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTObjective
Dose due to the electron streaming effect (ESE) is a significant contribution to out-of-field dose on the Elekta Unity MR-Linac. The aim of this work is to provide a systematic comparison of calculated and measured streaming dose for this system.
Approach
Beams 1.0 × 1.0 cm2 to 5.0 × 5.0 cm2, gantry 90.0°, 1000 MU, were incident on an in-house phantom. At the beam entrance and exit surfaces of the phantom, ESE was generated in the Y-direction (IEC 61217). EBT3 film, orientated within the X-Z plane ...

Clinical and MRI characterization of apraxic syndrome in corticobasal degeneration: A single-case study
Conclusion: Previous observations in CBD indicate lack of inhibitory control from the sensory to the primary motor cortex with dysfunctional frontoparietal and cortico-motoneuron projections. Our neuroimaging data are partially consistent with these observations suggesting that the apraxic disorder in our patient might be produced by the disconnection of the primary motor cortex from the parietal areas that prevents selection and control of muscle movements, in the presence of preserved cortico-motoneuron as demonstrated by normal PEM. Apraxic disorders in CBD are high-level deficits of movement control that spare the moto...
