EZH2 inhibition induces HLA class I re-expression in Merkel Cell Carcinoma
Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare primary cutaneous neuroendocrine carcinoma with frequent metastases and poor outcome (Dellambra et al. 2021). MCC can be induced either by Merkel cell polyomavirus or by UV exposure both resulting in the expression of immunogenic proteins, i.e., viral antigens or neoantigens, respectively. Accordingly, immune escape mechanisms such as T-cell exhaustion through the expression of PD-1 (Afanasiev et al. 2013) and PD-L1 (Dellambra et al. 2021) in the tumor microenvironment are frequently observed in MCC tumors. Prevalence of viral DNA in high-grade serous epithelial ovarian cancer and correlation with clinical outcomes
CONCLUSIONS: The presence of a VOI was significantly associated with a lower OS. These findings may have implications for clinical management of ovarian cancer but require additional studies.PMID:38039311 | DOI:10.1371/journal.pone.0294448 (Source: Herpes)

RWD87 Retrospective Observational Study of Patients with Metastatic Merkel Cell Carcinoma (mMCC) Using the Caraderm Database Linked to the French National Health Data System (SNDS)
Avelumab, an anti –PD-L1 antibody, was granted marketing authorization in Europe in September 2017 for the treatment of mMCC, a rare and aggressive skin cancer, based on results from the pivotal phase 2 JAVELIN Merkel 200 trial (NCT02155647). Avelumab has been reimbursed in France since March 2019 in patients with mMCC with prior chemotherapy. In September 2018, the Transparency Committee requested collection of real-world data from a comprehensive registry. (Source: Value in Health)

EE396 Economic Evaluation of PD-1 Blockers in Merkel Cell Carcinoma: A Systematic Literature Review
Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare, aggressive skin cancer, associated with ultraviolet exposure, immunosuppression, and Merkel cell polyomavirus infections. This systematic literature review assessed model-based economic evaluations of PD-1 inhibitors used to manage MCC. (Source: Value in Health)

A SEER program study of survival trends in Merkel cell carcinoma of the eyelid: 2000-2019
CONCLUSIONS: Consistent with previous reports, most patients were white, female, and age 85+.Incidence correlated with metropolitan environments and median income. While most patients did not die from MCCE, majority of recorded deaths occurred within one year of diagnosis.PMID:38032687 | DOI:10.1080/01676830.2023.2286380 (Source: Orbit)
