Health literacy of women giving birth in Vilnius Perinatology Centre
AbstractThe aim of the studyTo investigate the health literacy and associated factors of women giving birth at the Vilnius Perinatology Centre.Material and methodsThe study was conducted between June 2022 and September 2022 at the Vilnius University Hospital in Lithuania. Five hundred and eight women who had delivered healthy newborns were surveyed. The study instrument was the European Health Literacy Questionnaire (HLS-EU-Q47) in addition to other questionnaires to assess socio-demographic factors of the mother. The Health Literacy Questionnaire was used with the permission of the authors. The survey data was processed u...

Assessing the Readability of Online Health Information for Colonoscopy — Analysis of Articles in 22 European Languages
This study aimed to evaluate online health information on colonoscopy, focusing on quantity and comprehensibility of internet resources dedicated to the colonoscopy. This information could be used by European Union (EU) colorectal cancer (CRC) screening providers to address patient ’s unfilled educational needs, fear of colonoscopy, and other barriers that deter from CRC screening. The term “colonoscopy” translated into 22 official EU languages was searched using the Google search engine. For each translation, generated list of websites was assessed with Google Translate . The first 50 websites in each language were ...

Can family members reliably assess mood and suicidal ideation in individuals with epilepsy?
CONCLUSION: Companions of PWE provided comparable reports of participant anxiety and depression on a group level but tended to underestimate psychiatric symptoms as their scale scores became higher. Proxies significantly underreported suicidal ideation in those people who did express it. While proxy reporting should not be used interchangeably on an individual level, its use in group studies may be useful and ought to be investigated further.PMID:37976790 | DOI:10.1016/j.yebeh.2023.109537 (Source: Epilepsy and Behaviour)

Disentangling archaic introgression and genomic signatures of selection at human immunity genes
Infect Genet Evol. 2023 Nov 15:105528. doi: 10.1016/j.meegid.2023.105528. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPathogens and infectious diseases have imposed exceptionally strong selective pressure on ancient and modern human genomes and contributed to the current variation in many genes. There is evidence that modern humans acquired immune variants through interbreeding with ancient hominins, but the impact of such variants on human traits is not fully understood. The main objectives of this research were to infer the genetic signatures of positive selection that may be involved in adaptation to infectious diseases and to invest...

Viruses, Vol. 15, Pages 2265: The Prevalence, Seroprevalence, and Risk Factors of Tick-Borne Encephalitis Virus in Dogs in Lithuania, a Highly Endemic State
nkevicius The rising awareness and increasing number of case reports of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) in dogs indicate that the virus might be an important tick-borne pathogen in dogs, especially in endemic areas. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the prevalence rate of TBEV RNA and TBEV-specific antibodies in clinical samples of dogs living in a highly endemic region of Lithuania and to evaluate the main risk factors for severe disease course and death. The blood samples (n = 473) of dogs were collected in two veterinary clinics in central Lithuania. Tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) RNA wa...

Study of foot support during gait in healthy children from neighbouring countries
CONCLUSION: The results can help caregivers, as well as clinicians and researchers, understand how gait mechanics change with development and the growth course of the children of that country. Also, the results are important for the analysis and comparison of children's gait, as control reference data from the same country.PMID:37955070 | DOI:10.3233/THC-235011 (Source: Technology and Health Care)
