Medical Treatment for Androgenetic Alopecia
Facial Plast Surg DOI: 10.1055/a-2196-4713Androgenetic alopecia is a common type of hair loss, which is generally influenced by genetic factors and systemic androgens resulting in follicular miniaturization.1 It can cause cosmetic problems leading to psychological distress among affected men and women. Effective standard medical treatments available are topical minoxidil 2 to 5%, oral finasteride, oral dutasteride, and hair transplantation.1 However, some patients do not achieve favorable results with standard treatments. For these reasons, other novel treatments have been developed, including new medications, regenerative...

Er:YAG laser therapy in combination with GLUMA desensitizer reduces dentin hypersensitivity in children with molar-incisor hypomineralization: a randomized clinical trial
This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of erbium-doped yttrium garnet (Er:YAG) laser and GLUMA desensitizer for dentin hypersensitivity in teeth affected by Molar-Incisor Hypomineralization (MIH). One hundred twenty children were randomly allocated to four groups: the control (Co) group, the desensitizer (De) group, the laser (La) group, and the laser  + desensitizer (La + De) group. Outcome measures included Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and 14-item Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) evaluation. For mean VAS scores, a significant reduction was found over time in all groups. Co and De groups, Co and La g...

Non-thermal CO2 Laser Therapy (NTCLT): A Novel Photobiomodulative Approach for Immediate Pain Relief of Patchy Oral Mucositis Due to Chemotherapy of Solid Tumors
Conclusion: Based on the results of this before-after clinical trial, NTCLT has the potential to be considered as a non-invasive and safe palliative option for the pain management of patchy OM due to chemotherapy of solid tumors.PMID:38028867 | PMC:PMC10658119 | DOI:10.34172/jlms.2023.54 (Source: Pain Physician)

Effect of photobiomodulation associated with strengthening pelvic floor muscles in volunteers with urinary incontinence: a randomized, double-blinded, and placebo-controlled clinical trial
AbstractThe dysfunctions of the female pelvic floor have a great influence on the quality of life of women, in all areas, social, psychological, and sexual. Stress urinary incontinence is the clinical condition in which the woman involuntarily loses urine to efforts, such as coughing and sneezing, causing great embarrassment and affecting her quality of life. The physiotherapeutic treatments include muscle strengthening; however, muscle fatigue is present when performing the exercises. Here we investigate the effects of photobiomodulation to prevent muscle fatigue in the pelvic floor in the treatment of stress urinary inco...

Efficacy of Low-Level Laser Therapy for Oral Mucositis in Hematologic Patients Undergoing Transplantation: A Single-Arm Prospective Study
This study aimed to fill this gap by evaluating the safety and efficacy of LLLT in a Japanese patient population. In a single-group, non-blinded, exploratory trial, we compared 21 LLLT-treated patients against a historical control of 96 patients. The primary endpoint was the incidence of Grade ≥ 2 mucositis, based on NCI-CTCAE ver. 4.0. The LLLT group showed a significantly lower incidence of Grade ≥ 2 mucositis (23.8%) compared to the control group (64.6%) (p = 0.0006). Furthermore, Grade ≥ 2 mucositis correlated with increased oral dryness and longer hospital stays. Our study confirms the efficacy of LLLT in reduci...

Postoperative Pain Management in Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting: An Integrative Review
CONCLUSIONS: A greater tendency to use drug strategies for postoperative pain relief was identified. The drugs used demonstrated efficacy and safety in the treatment of pain, with the exception of nefopam, which showed little benefit in this population. Nonpharmacological interventions, used as adjuvants to drug treatment, were shown to be safe, effective, and well tolerated by the patients.PMID:37999687 | DOI:10.1016/j.jopan.2023.07.020 (Source: Journal of Perianesthesia Nursing)
