Examining the efficacy of treatments for arm lymphedema in breast cancer survivors: an overview of systematic reviews with meta-analyses
This study is registered with PROSPERO, CRD42020184813.FINDINGS: 1569 studies were identified by the search and eighteen SRMAs with 51 RCTs were included, investigating manual lymphatic drainage (MLD), compression pump, exercise, kinesio taping, laser, and acupuncture. Overall, the methodological quality of the SRMAs was low. SRMAs reached different conclusions for all treatment modalities, except for kinesio taping where the two SRMAs found no effect. The analysis of 40 RCTs with 1970 participants revealed a small effect across all interventions compared to any control (g = 0.20, p = 0.047, I2 = 0.79), corresponding to vo...

Nd:YAG/Er:YAG dual laser compared with topical steroid to treat vulvar lichen sclerosus: A randomised controlled trial
CONCLUSIONS: Non-ablative dual Nd:YAG/Er:YAG laser therapy was safe and significantly improved clinical outcome and subjective symptoms at the 6-month follow up. This suggests that laser may be a promising alternative to corticosteroid therapy. However, the authors caution regular follow ups because of the premalignant nature of the disease.PMID:38149520 | DOI:10.1111/1471-0528.17737 (Source: BJOG : An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology)

Effect of various photobiomodulation regimens on breast cancer-related lymphedema: A systematic review and meta-analysis
AbstractBreast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL) is common among patients who have completed their cancer treatment. Although low-level laser therapy (LLLT) has been explored as a treatment option for BCRL, we could not find a regimen that is more effective than others. This meta-analysis aimed to organize existing research and determine the optimal combination of LLLT parameters for BCRL treatment. Studies were collected from four online databases: Embase, Ovid Medline, Cochrane, and Cinahl. The collected studies were reviewed by two of the authors. We focused on the aspects of the treatment area, treatment regimen, and to...

Laser treatment for adverse reactions to injectable facial filling: a systematic review
AbstractFacial filling is widespread in society, albeit associated with inherent risks. This review analyzes clinical studies using laser therapy for filler complications to assess its safety and efficacy as an alternative treatment. A literature search was conducted up until April 2023, encompassing five different databases: PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, and Medline, to find clinical trials addressing patients who underwent laser treatment for adverse reactions to injectable facial filling. The outcome variables were the clinical assessment of the lesion and the occurrence of post-intervention complications/sequ...

Tebentafusp as a Promising Drug for the Treatment of Uveal Melanoma
Curr Drug Targets. 2023 Dec 19. doi: 10.2174/0113894501280380231214105255. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTUveal melanoma (UM) is the most common primary intraocular malignancy in adults and commonly occurs in the Caucasian population. The malignancy involves the uvea of the eye, which includes the iris, ciliary body, and choroid. The etiology of UM is still not well understood, but age is a risk factor. Symptoms include blurred vision, redness of the eye, floaters, dark spots, a change in the size of the pupil, and loss of vision. The location, shape, and size of the tumor are important for therapeutic purposes. Treating me...

Effects of externally-applied, non-pharmacological Interventions on short- and long-term symptoms and inflammatory cytokine levels in patients with knee osteoarthritis: a systematic review and network meta-analysis
ConclusionsThe results of the comprehensive comparison of the outcome indicators in 9 different EANPI indicated that radiofrequency and Tuina therapy were more effective and consistently ranked high in improving clinical symptoms in the short and long term. Radiofrequency is effective at relieving pain, and Tuina therapy can be given priority for treatment when hypofunction is the main symptom. EANPI to improve pain symptoms may be related to the regulation of inflammatory cytokine levels, which may be a potential mechanism of action.Systematic review registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/display_record.php?, ide...

Use of fractionated laser therapy for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia: a systematic review and meta-analysis
AbstractProcedural management, including fractionated laser therapy, has been increasingly investigated for the management of androgenetic alopecia (AGA). However, no comprehensive resources exist detailing the efficacy of fractionated laser therapies used for the treatment of AGA. A systematic review investigating fractionated laser use for AGA was performed, separated into each distinct fractionated laser modality. A meta-analysis was performed to examine improvement in hair counts and hair shaft diameter. Fourteen studies were included for systematic review, which identified the use of erbium-glass, thulium, erbium-ytrr...
