RAS-Mutated Cytologically Indeterminate Thyroid Nodules: Prevalence of Malignancy and Behavior Under Active Surveillance
CONCLUSIONS: We describe the behavior of RAS-mutant ITNs under AS and find that most demonstrate stability over time. Of the resected RAS-mutant nodules, most were benign; of the cancers, most were ATA low-risk. Immediate surgical resection of all RAS-mutant ITNs appears to be a low-value practice. Further research is needed to help define cases most appropriate for AS or immediate surgery.PMID:38407967 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0544 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the American Thyroid Association)

Association of COVID-19 Infection with Subsequent Thyroid Dysfunction: An International Population-based Propensity Score Matched Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: COVID-19 infection was associated with an increased risk of thyroid dysfunction, including thyrotoxicosis and hypothyroidism, regardless of age or sex, during a 12-month follow-up period. Further research is required to validate these findings.PMID:38407979 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0626 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the American Thyroid Association)

Effects of levothyroxine treatment on fertility and pregnancy outcomes in subclinical hypothyroidism: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
CONCLUSIONS: Pre-conceptional levothyroxine treatment does not improve fertility or decrease the incidence of miscarriages. However, further well-designed studies are needed for pre-conceptional treatment, especially in TSH >4.0 mU/L. Levothyroxine treatment during pregnancy had a positive effect on preterm birth; nevertheless, this was only applicable to subclinical hypothyroidism with TSH >4.0 mU/L.PMID:38368537 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0546 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the American Thyroid Association)

Patients' persistent symptoms, clinician demographics and geo-economic factors are associated with choice of therapy for hypothyroidism by European thyroid specialists: The "THESIS"* collaboration (* < em > T < /em > reatment of < em > H < /em > ypothyroidism in Europe by < em > S < /em > pecialists, an < em > I < /em > nternational < em > S < /em > urvey)
CONCLUSIONS: The perception of patients' dissatisfaction reported by physicians seems lower than that described by hypothyroid patients in previous surveys. LT4+LT3 treatment is used frequently by thyroid specialists in Europe for persistent hypothyroid-like symptoms even if they generally attribute such symptoms to non-endocrine causes and despite the evidence of non-superiority of the combined over the LT4 therapy. Pressure by dissatisfied patients on their physicians for LT3-containing treatments is a likely explanation. The association of the therapeutic choices with the clinician demographic characteristics and geo-ec...

Fear of Cancer Recurrence in Differentiated Thyroid Cancer Survivors - A Systematic Review
CONCLUSION: FCR is common in thyroid cancer survivors but significant heterogeneity in the current evidence base limits assessment of incidence, severity or risk factors. There is a need to use validated tools to assess FCR in both research and clinical contexts. Reliable assessment of FCR may permit routine assessment of FCR in clinical practice and allow interventions to be prospectively evaluated to optimise the holistic well-being of thyroid cancer survivors.PMID:38368547 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0642 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the American Thyroid Association)

Clinical evaluation of an Artificial Intelligence-based decision support system for the diagnosis and ACR TI-RADS classification of thyroid nodules
CONCLUSION: The use of an AI-based DSS was associated with an overall improvement in the diagnostic efficacy of ultrasound imaging, based on the AUROC, as well as an increase in sensitivity, specificity, the negative and positive predictive value, and diagnostic accuracy. There was also a reduction in interobserver variability and an increase in the degree of concordance with the use of Al. Al reclassified more than half of the nodules with intermediate ACR TI-RADS into lower risk categories.PMID:38368560 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0603 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the American Thyroid Association)
