Optimizing Diagnostic Accuracy of Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy Calcitonin Measurements in Detecting Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma
CONCLUSIONS: The use of FNA-Ctn measured by ECLIA showed adequate diagnostic accuracy for MTC diagnosis. Moreover, it may be clinically useful for localization in multinodular goiter when lobectomy is considered.PMID:38047535 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0313 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the American Thyroid Association)

Tumor grade and molecular characteristics associated with survival in sporadic medullary thyroid carcinoma
CONCLUSIONS: IMTCGS grading was associated with DSS independently of other clinical, pathological, and molecular factors. Moreover, MTC grading was associated with RET and RAS patterns, which explains, at least in part, the molecular basis of the aggressive behavior of high-grade MTC.PMID:38047536 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0482 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the American Thyroid Association)

Pralsetinib in Patients with Advanced/metastatic RET-altered Thyroid Cancer: Updated Efficacy and Safety Data from the ARROW Study
CONCLUSIONS: In this updated analysis of the ARROW study, pralsetinib continued to show deep and durable clinical activity and a manageable safety profile in patients with advanced/metastatic RET-altered thyroid cancer.PMID:38009200 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0363 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the American Thyroid Association)

Molecular diagnostics and [18F]FDG-PET/CT in indeterminate thyroid nodules: complementing techniques or waste of valuable resources?
CONCLUSIONS: MD and [18F]FDG-PET/CT are both accurate rule-out tests when unresected nodules that remain unchanged on ultrasound follow-up are considered benign. It may vary worldwide which test is considered most suitable, depending on local availability of diagnostics, expertise, and cost-effectiveness considerations. Although complementary, the benefits of their combined use may be confined when therapeutic consequences are considered, and should therefore not routinely be recommended. In non-oncocytic ITN, sequential testing may be considered in case of a first-step MD negative test to confirm that withholding diagnost...

Outcomes in Maternal Graves' Disease: A Population-Based Mother-Infant Dyad Cohort Study
CONCLUSIONS: Neonatal thyroid function levels were affected by maternal Graves' disease only when the disease was active during gestation. Moreover, maternal Graves' disease was also associated with an increased risk of adverse outcomes for the mother-infant dyad.PMID:38009210 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0291 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the American Thyroid Association)

Association Between Antibiotic Exposure and Thyroid Cancer: A Nationwide Cohort Study in South Korea
CONCLUSIONS: Long-term antibiotic prescriptions and an increasing number of antibiotic classes may be associated with a higher risk of thyroid cancer in a duration-dependent manner. The effects of long-term antibiotic exposure on thyroid cancer should be further investigated.PMID:38009221 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0235 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the American Thyroid Association)

Evaluating ChatGPT responses on thyroid nodules for patient education
CONCLUSION: ChatGPT overall provides appropriate answers to most questions on thyroid nodules regardless of prompting. Despite targeted prompting strategies, ChatGPT reliably generates responses corresponding to grade levels well-above accepted recommendations for presenting medical information to patients. Significant rates of AI hallucination may preclude clinicians from recommending the current version of ChatGPT as an educational tool for patients at this time.PMID:38010917 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0491 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the American Thyroid Association)

Comparative Analysis of Taxonomic and Functional Gut Microbiota Profiles in Relation to Seroconversion of Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies in Euthyroid Participants
CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that there is no robust difference in gut microbiome between individuals with or without TPOAb in terms of alpha and beta-diversity. Nonetheless, several taxa were identified with nominal significance related to TPOAb presence. Further research is required to determine whether these changes indeed imply a higher risk of overt HT.PMID:38010921 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0346 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the American Thyroid Association)
