Disulfide bonds of thyroid peroxidase are critical elements for subcellular localization, proteasome-dependent degradation, and enzyme activity
CONCLUSIONS: All 12 disulfide bonds play an important role in the activity of TPO. Furthermore, the mutations lead to misfolding, degradation, and membrane insertion.PMID:38482822 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0514 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the American Thyroid Association)

Decision Regret Following the Choice of Surgery or Active Surveillance for Small, Low-Risk Papillary Thyroid Cancer: A Prospective Cohort Study
CONCLUSIONS: In this study of patients with small, low risk PTC, the mean level of decision regret pertaining to the initial disease management choice was relatively low after one year and it did not differ significantly for respondents who chose AS or surgery.PMID:38481111 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0634 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the American Thyroid Association)

Molecular Testing for Bethesda III Thyroid nodules: Trends in Implementation, Cytopathology Call Rates, Surgery Rates, and Malignancy Yield at a Single Institution
Conclusion The use of MT increased across the institution over the study period, with the largest increase seen after a dedicated pass for MT was routinely collected. This increased availability of MT may have led to an unintended increase in the rates of BIII lesions, MT utilization, and surgery for benign nodules. Physicians who use MT should be aware of potential consequences of its adoption in order to appropriately counsel patients.PMID:38468547 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0664 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the American Thyroid Association)

Identification of P21 (CDKN1A) Activated Kinase 4 as a susceptibility gene for Familial Non-medullary Thyroid Carcinoma
CONCLUSIONS: Our study identified PAK4: c.T1250C: p.I417T as a potential susceptibility gene for FNMTC. The study concludes that the mutant form of PAK4 exhibits stronger oncogenic functions, suggesting its potential as a novel diagnostic molecular marker for FNMTC.PMID:38411500 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0564 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the American Thyroid Association)
