Lessons from prospective longitudinal follow-up of a French APECED cohort
CONCLUSION: This first prospective cohort showed a high AIRE genotype variability, with two new gene variants. The prevalence of potentially life-threatening non-endocrine manifestations, was higher with systematic screening. These manifestations could, along with age-dependent B-cell lymphopenia, contribute to disease severity. Systematic screening for all the manifestations of the syndrome would allow earlier diagnosis, supporting vaccination, and targeted therapeutic approaches.PMID:38605470 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae211 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)

Metabolic effects of testosterone added to intensive lifestyle intervention in older men with obesity and hypogonadism
CONCLUSION: In older men with obesity and hypogonadism, adding TRT for six months to LT does not result in further improved cardiometabolic profiles, and could potentially blunt some of the metabolic benefits induced by LT.PMID:38606934 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae249 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)

Evaluation of the thiazide challenge test to differentiate primary from hypercalciuria-related hyperparathyroidism
CONCLUSION: the TCT aids in discriminating patients with PHPT from those with SHPT-IH based on a rise in serum calcium. Other parameters are not different between both groups. Larger prospective trials are necessary to further define the diagnostic potential of the TCT, its most appropriate biochemical outcome variables, and decision cut-offs.PMID:38605120 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae239 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)

Outcomes of SDHB pathogenic variant carriers: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Penetrance for PPGL in SDHB PV carriers increases linearly with age. Affected carriers are at risk of developing and dying from metastatic disease, or of developing second tumors. Lifelong surveillance is appropriate.PMID:38605204 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae233 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)

Mild hyponatremia is not associated with degradation of trabecular bone microarchitecture despite bone mass loss
CONCLUSIONS: Hyponatremia, at least in mild forms, is not associated with a degradation of trabecular microarchitecture, assessed non-invasively by TBS. An independent association between hyponatremia and loss of bone mass is confirmed, particularly at the total hip.PMID:38605279 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae234 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)

Opposing effects of cannabidiol in patient-derived neuroendocrine tumor, pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma primary cultures
CONCLUSIONS: We suggest a potential novel treatment option for some NETs/PPGLs, but also provide evidence for caution when applying cannabinoids as supportive therapy for pain or appetite management to cancer patients, and possibly as health supplements.PMID:38605427 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae241 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)

The Impact of High Adiposity on Endometrial Progesterone Response and Metallothionein Regulation
CONCLUSIONS: Taken together, the in vitro and in vivo systems used here revealed that high adiposity or obesity can alter MT expression by decreasing progesterone response in the epithelial cells and increasing oxidative stress in the stroma.PMID:38597153 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae236 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)
