Thyroid hormone homeostasis in levothyroxine-treated patients: Findings from ELSA-Brasil
CONCLUSION: The present results challenge the dogma that treatment with LT4 for hypothyroidism restores TH homeostasis in all patients. A substantial number of LT4-treated patients exhibit repeated FT4 and FT3 levels outside the normal reference range, despite normal TSH levels. Further studies are needed to define the clinical implications of these findings.PMID:38506164 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae139 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)

A retrospective cohort of tumor-induced osteomalacia and case series of malignant disease
CONCLUSIONS: TIO is a condition with significant morbidity. Very high FGF23 level and disease recurrence are associated with malignant disease. Reasons behind the observation of higher mortality in non-localizing TIO should be further explored.PMID:38506445 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae183 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)

Time trends in liver-related mortality in people with and without diabetes: Results from a population based study
CONCLUSION: While liver-related mortality rates decreased significantly among patients with diabetes, NVNA causes comprised the majority of cases. Excess mortality for liver-related causes in patients with diabetes compared with controls remained constant in the studied period.PMID:38506158 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae182 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)

Long-term glucocorticoid exposure and incident cardiovascular diseases - the Lifelines cohort
CONCLUSIONS: In this large, prospective cohort study, we found that long-term cortisone levels, measured in scalp hair, represent a relevant and significant predictor for future cardiovascular diseases in younger individuals. These results highlight glucocorticoid action as possible treatment target for CVD prevention, where hair glucocorticoid measurements could help identify individuals that may benefit from such treatments.PMID:38500477 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae081 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)
