Transverse relationship of permanent molars after crossbite correction in deciduous dentition
ConclusionsAfter treatment of posterior crossbite during the deciduous dentition phase, the first permanent molars erupted in crossbite in the 34.4 per cent of the cases. The type of treatment is not a significant predictor for the presence of posterior crossbite on the first permanent molars. (Source: The European Journal of Orthodontics)

A prospective 10-year follow-up dental cast study of patients with obstructive sleep apnoea/snoring who use a mandibular protruding device
ConclusionsLong-term nocturnal use of an MPD may cause both favourable and unfavourable occlusion changes, such as a decrease of the overjet and overbite or posterior infra-occlusion, and these changes may continue to develop during treatment with an MPD. Subjects with a Class III relationship may not be a suitable group for treatment with an MPD due to the mesial drift of the mandibular teeth. (Source: The European Journal of Orthodontics)

Asymmetric molars ’ mesial rotation and mesialization in unilateral functional posterior crossbite and implications for interceptive treatment in the mixed dentition
Conclusions:The findings of this study show an asymmetric upper first molars ’ migration (rotation and mesialization) in unilateral functional posterior crossbite versus a control group. An early evaluation and correction of the molars’ migration during the mixed dentition should be considered in order to obtain a correct inter-occlusal sagittal molar relationship, space for an adequate eruption of permanent teeth, and perhaps reduce the need of a following fixed appliance treatment in the permanent dentition. The Effect of mandible advancement splints in mild, moderate, and severe obstructive sleep apnea —the need for sleep registrations during follow up
ConclusionBoth sleep recordings and subjective indicators demonstrated that MAS therapy was successful in OSA based on ESS, total AHI, ODI4%, and minimum oxygen saturation values. It seems useful to increase the protrusion at its maximal clinical tolerance. An experienced dentist could make therapeutically decision concerning the follow up of MAS efficacy regardless of the result of sleep study. We suggest that MAS is a valuable treatment alternative for CPAP. However, the previous use of CPAP with MAS as well as lower baseline BMI seem to have a positive correlation with the success of MAS therapy. (Source: The European J...

Reliability of upper pharyngeal airway assessment using dental CBCT: a systematic review
ConclusionsThe current literature reports moderate to excellent reliability, with airway volume having higher reliability than minimum cross-sectional area. However, only limited aspects of the process of airway analysis have been evaluated, indicating that further research is required to adequately establish the reliability of upper pharyngeal airway assessment of patients using dental CBCT.RegistrationNone (Source: The European Journal of Orthodontics)
