Factors Related to Agreement Between Child and Caregiver Report of Child Functioning With Chronic Pain: PROMIS Pediatric and Parent Proxy Report
Discussion: Findings are discussed within the interpersonal context of pain and indicate the relevance of both child and caregiver perspectives to personalize chronic pain assessment and treatment. Findings can be used by clinicians and researchers to guide whether and how to integrate multi-informant reports about child chronic pain functioning. (Source: The Clinical Journal of Pain)

A Mediational Analysis of Stress, Inflammation, Sleep, and Pain in Acute Musculoskeletal Trauma
In this study, we test the hypotheses that pretrauma life stress influences posttrauma pain severity, and 2 potential mediating pathways, 1 biological (C-reactive protein, CRP) and 1 contextual (sleep quality). Materials and Methods: Data collected from participants within 3 weeks of a noncatastrophic musculoskeletal trauma were used in this observational cross-sectional mediation analysis. The primary outcome was pain severity as measured using the Brief Pain Inventory. Predictors were posttrauma CRP assayed from plasma, sleep interference measured by the Brief Pain Inventory, and a study-specific “General Life Stres...

Effects of Tonic Spinal Cord Stimulation on External Mechanical and Thermal Stimuli Perception Using Quantitative Sensory Testing: A Multicenter Stimulation ON-OFF Study on Chronic Pain Patients
Objectives: Tonic spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is currently used to treat neuropathic pain. With this type of stimulation, an implantable pulse generator generates electrical paresthesias in the affected area through 1 or more epidural leads. The goal of this study was to evaluate the impact of tonic SCS on the sensory perception of chronic pain patients using quantitative sensory testing (QST). Materials and Methods: Forty-eight patients (mean age: 57 y) with chronic leg pain due to failed back surgery syndrome or complex regional pain syndrome treated with SCS were recruited from 3 research centers. Test procedur...

The Impact of Spatial Distribution of Pain on Long-Term Trajectories for Chronic Pain Outcomes After Intensive Interdisciplinary Pain Treatment
Discussion: Overall, spatial distribution of pain, coping efficacy, and pain intensity played an important role in patients’ response to treatment. Better understanding of these variables could improve treatment response, particularly for the most severely disabled chronic pain patients. (Source: The Clinical Journal of Pain)
