VEGF165b Mutant Promotes the Apoptosis of Murine Breast Cancer Cells Induced by Paclitaxel by Inducing Tumor Vessel Maturation
CONCLUSION: Immunohistochemistry and the TUNEL assay showed that mVEGF165b and bevacizumab combined with paclitaxel-induced higher vascular maturity and more apoptosis than paclitaxel alone. mVEGF165b showed similar efficacy and mechanism of action as bevacizumab, indicating its potential to be developed into a safe and effective anti-angiogenic drug.PMID:37861033 | DOI:10.2174/0109298665256010230919062456 (Source: Protein and Peptide Letters)

The Function and Modification of Human Defensin 5
Protein Pept Lett. 2023 Oct 9. doi: 10.2174/0109298665252235230919071229. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe antibacterial and antiviral functions of human defensin 5 lay the foundation for its role as a core host protective component. In addition, HD5 also has the function of inhibiting tumor proliferation and immune regulation. However, everything has two sides; cytotoxic and proinflammatory properties may exist, while HD5 performs physiological functions. Accordingly, the modification and engineering of HD5 are particularly important. Therefore, this review summarizes the role of HD5 in various aspects of host defense, a...

Challenges and Solutions in the Recombinant Expression of Membrane Proteins
Protein Pept Lett. 2023 Oct 10. doi: 10.2174/0109298665264728230920070145. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMembrane proteins are important components of the proteome and play key roles in many biological processes, such as signal transduction, material transport, cell recognition, etc. Membrane proteins are involved in several fields, and more and more researchers want to understand them. However, the structural properties of membrane proteins make their recombinant expression yield low. This adversely affects the study of the structure and function of membrane proteins. Therefore, it is crucial to have a comprehensive and u...
