Genome-Wide Analysis of Family I84 Protease Inhibitor Genes in Three Bivalves Reveals Important Information About the Protein Family's Evolution
In this study, the genes of Family I84 protease inhibitors in 3 bivalves, Crassostrea gigas, Crassostrea virginica and Tegillarca granosa, were analyzed at the genomic level. A total of 66 Family I84 genes (22 in C. gigas, 28 in C. virginica and 16 in T. granosa) were identified from the 3 species. They distributed unevenly in the genomes involving 4 chromosomes in C. gigas and 5 chromosomes in C. virginica and T. granosa and some genes were tandemly duplicated. Most genes had 3 exons with 12 genes having 4 exons and 1 gene having 2 exons. All genes but 1 from C. gigas and 1 from T. granosa encoded peptides with a signal s...

Contribution of HIF-1 α to Heat Shock Response by Transcriptional Regulation of HSF1/HSP70 Signaling Pathway in Pacific Oyster, Crassostrea gigas
In this study, a novel regulatory mechanism that is mediated by hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) was revealed in Pacific oyster (Crassostrea gigas) in response to heat stress. We identified a total of six HIF-1α genes in the C. gigas genome, of which HIF-1α and HIF-1α-like5 were highly induced under heat stress. We found that the HIF-1α and HIF-1α-like5 genes played critical roles in the heat shock response (HSR) through upregulating the expression of heat shock protein (HSP). Knocking down of HIF-1α via RNA interference (RNAi) inhibited the expression of heat shock factor 1 (HSF1) and HSP70 genes in C. gigas u...

Potential Involvement of DNA Methylation in Hybrid Sterility in Hermaphroditic Argopecten Scallops
In this study, the effect of DNA methylation in the hybrid sterility of hermaphroditic Argopecten scallops was explored. The results showed that the mean methylation level was higher in sterile hybrids than fertile hybrids, especially on chromosome 11 of the paternal parent. A total of 61,062 differentially methylated regions (DMRs) were identified, containing 3619 differentially methylated genes (DMGs) and 1165 differentially methylated promoters that are located in the DMRs of CG sequence context. The hyper-methylated genes were enriched into five KEGG pathways, including ubiquitin-mediated proteolysis, ECM-receptor inte...

Sex-Associated SNP Confirmation of Sex-Reversed Male Farmed Japanese Flounder Paralichthys olivaceus
Mar Biotechnol (NY). 2023 Aug 5. doi: 10.1007/s10126-023-10235-2. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFemale Japanese flounder Paralichthys olivaceus grow more rapidly than the male. The goal of all-female commercial production requires an efficient method of genetic sex identification. We conducted genome-wide association analysis of female and male farmed Japanese flounder (n = 24 per phenotypic sex) and found all regions of chromosome 24 to be significantly associated with phenotypic sex, suggesting it as the sex chromosome. Genetic sex was identified based on single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) on chromosome 24 (n = 3568) ...
