Research trends and hotspots in the field of electrical impedance tomography for mechanical ventilation: a bibliometric analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Significant progress has been made in EIT research for mechanical ventilation. EIT research is limited to a small number of countries with a present research focus on the prevention and treatment of ventilator-related lung injury, oxygenation status, and prone ventilation. These topics are expected to remain research hotspots in the future.PMID:38617762 | PMC:PMC11009609 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-24-98 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

Establishment and verification of a prediction model based on clinical characteristics and computed tomography radiomics parameters for distinguishing benign and malignant pulmonary nodules
CONCLUSIONS: The clinical-radiomics nomogram combined of CT-based radiomics signature, along with CYFRA21-1 and CEA, demonstrated strong predictive ability, calibration, and clinical usefulness in distinguishing between benign and malignant pulmonary nodules. The use of CT-based radiomics has the potential to assist clinicians in making informed decisions prior to biopsy or surgery while avoiding unnecessary treatment for non-cancerous lesions.PMID:38617763 | PMC:PMC11009598 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1400 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

Robot-assisted minimally invasive esophagectomy versus minimally invasive esophagectomy for thoracic lymph node dissection in patients with squamous cell carcinoma: a retrospective comparative cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Our study shows that RAMIE may be more effective than MIE in terms of the number thoracic lymph nodes dissected and the extent of dissection. Moreover, RAMIE may be not associated with additional surgical complications.PMID:38617764 | PMC:PMC11009590 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-24-201 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

Clinical characteristics and prognostic implications of immune-related hepatitis in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors: a retrospective study
CONCLUSIONS: Early and severe ir-hepatitis are associated with worse survival benefits, which still required more basic and perspective studies.PMID:38617766 | PMC:PMC11009595 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1684 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

Wedge resection, segmentectomy, and lobectomy: oncologic outcomes based on extent of surgical resection for ≤2 cm stage IA non-small cell lung cancer
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with inferior performance status or lower baseline pulmonary function are more likely to receive wedge resection for clinical stage IA NSCLC ≤2 cm in size. For these small tumors, lobectomy, segmentectomy, and wedge resection provide comparable oncologic outcomes.PMID:38617767 | PMC:PMC11009583 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1693 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

Recent progress in radioactive seed implantation brachytherapy of non-small cell lung cancer: a narrative review
CONCLUSIONS: This review demonstrates that RSI-BT can be therapeutic in the treatment of both early and advanced NSCLC with manageable complications. There have also been reports on the combination of RSI-BT with other therapies, but more research is needed on the combination of RSI-BT with them.PMID:38617768 | PMC:PMC11009575 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1600 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

Clinical use of macitentan in the treatment of connective tissue disease-associated pulmonary arterial hypertension
CONCLUSIONS: Exercise tolerance and cardiac function in patients with CTD-PAH were significantly improved after treatment with macitentan, which was well tolerated. Therefore, macitentan may be an effective and safe targeted drug for CTD-PAH.PMID:38617769 | PMC:PMC11009607 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-24-151 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

Comparison of safety and effectiveness of different sheaths in ablation of focal atrial tachycardia: a retrospective study
CONCLUSIONS: The application of Vizigo sheath can improve the long-term success rate of FAT and reduce the radiation exposure of patients and medical staff in our single-center limited sample study. Indwelling pleural catheter infection and colonisation: a clinical practice review
J Thorac Dis. 2024 Mar 29;16(3):2196-2204. doi: 10.21037/jtd-23-1761. Epub 2024 Mar 27.ABSTRACTIndwelling pleural catheters (IPCs) are used in the management of malignant pleural effusions, but they can become infected in 5.7% of cases. This review aims to provide a summary of the development of IPC infections and their microbiology, diagnosis and management. IPC infections can be deep, involving the pleural space, or superficial. The former are of greater clinical concern. Deep infection is associated with biofilm formation on the IPC surface and require longer courses of antibiotic treatment. Mortality from infections is...

Efficacy and safety analysis of immune checkpoint inhibitor rechallenge therapy in locally advanced and advanced non-small cell lung cancer: a retrospective study
CONCLUSIONS: ICI rechallenge therapy beyond disease progression did not improve clinical outcomes in patients with NSCLC, but no new safety signals emerged. However, patients with favorable response to initial ICIs treatment still showed significant efficacy of subsequent ICI rechallenge therapy.PMID:38617775 | PMC:PMC11009570 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1767 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)
