Long-term prognosis analysis of surgical therapy for bilateral synchronous multiple primary lung cancer: a follow-up of 293 cases
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with BSMPLC who underwent surgery generally had a favorable prognosis. Whether or not to remove all nodules bilaterally does not affect the patient's long-term prognosis, suggesting the need for an individualized surgical approach.PMID:38505060 | PMC:PMC10944773 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1940 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

A novel neoadjuvant therapy for early-stage non-small cell lung cancer in a mouse model
CONCLUSIONS: Based on our preclinical data, neoadjuvant therapy with intralesional RB injection generated immune memory and prevented the recurrence and metastasis of tumour in a lung cancer mouse model, which provides a new strategy for neoadjuvant treatment of early-stage NSCLC.PMID:38505061 | PMC:PMC10944762 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1555 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

CONCLUSIONS: Most patients with EC who underwent esophageal reconstruction recovered to regular dietary habits and stable nutrition status, while some may still suffer from gastrointestinal symptoms, anxiety, and dietary limitations.PMID:38505062 | PMC:PMC10944728 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1266 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

Exploring diverse programmed cell-death patterns to develop a novel gene signature for predicting the prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma patients
CONCLUSIONS: This study identified a 9-gene signature (CDI) based on PCD-related genes that accurately predicted the prognosis of LUAD patients. The CDI could serve as a valuable prognostic indicator and guide personalized therapeutic strategies for LUAD.PMID:38505063 | PMC:PMC10944735 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1275 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

Prognostic implication of Vasoactive Inotropic Score in adult patients with cardiogenic shock on veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation
CONCLUSIONS: Firstly, higher maximum level of VIS within the first 6 hours before ECMO initiation independently predicted poorer clinical outcomes in patients supported with ECMO for CS. Secondly, VIS exceeding 20 was significantly associated with increased risks of in-hospital mortality and 30-day mortality. Thirdly, when categorized by the cause of CS, a high VIS exhibited good predictive ability in patients with acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, and acute myocarditis.PMID:38505065 | PMC:PMC10944791 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-823 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

Promotion of non-small cell lung cancer tumor growth by < em > FHL2 < /em > via inducing angiogenesis and vascular permeability
CONCLUSIONS: Our study revealed the role of FHL2 in NSCLC and the mechanism by which FHL2 promotes NSCLC tumorigenesis, providing novel insights into targeted therapy for NSCLC.PMID:38505066 | PMC:PMC10944754 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1975 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

Fascial structure of the anterior mediastinum: the surgical figure of the sternopericardial ligament and the role of affixing the thymus to the pericardium
CONCLUSIONS: Our observation of the SPL showed differences from classical descriptions. The SPL is a sagittal fibrous collection showing a unique figure. Part of the SPL is thickened behind the thymus, anchoring the thymus to the pericardium in the midline. The SPL is part of the bottom of Grodinsky's Space 3 in the thorax. The SPL is visible in radiologic images, such as the anterior junction line on a plain chest radiograph.PMID:38505067 | PMC:PMC10944790 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1602 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

Bioinformatics analysis of the prognostic role of alternative splicing data in lung adenocarcinoma
CONCLUSIONS: This study screened the ASE related to the prognosis of LUAD patients, and provided a theoretical basis for further study of the correlation between ASE and the prognosis of LUAD patients. It has provided new ideas for developing new biomarkers and therapeutic targets for LUAD patients.PMID:38505068 | PMC:PMC10944774 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-24-6 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

Modified surgical incision suturing technique in uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic pulmonary resection
CONCLUSIONS: Our modified suture method reduces the chance of infection and splitting and the severity of postoperative incision scar formation, promoting early healing. It can be safely and effectively applied to the incision suture of uniportal thoracoscopic pulmonary resection, enhancing the rapid postoperative recovery of patients.PMID:38505070 | PMC:PMC10944763 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1968 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

The effect of infectious diseases on lung transplantation in Japan
J Thorac Dis. 2024 Feb 29;16(2):1632-1644. doi: 10.21037/jtd-22-1884. Epub 2024 Feb 27.ABSTRACTLung transplantation in Japan is an increasingly accessible treatment option for end-stage lung disease; however, the lack of donor organs is a persisting challenge. Five- and 10-year survival rates of lung transplant recipients in Japan are comparable, if not superior, to international standards. The outcomes of lung transplantation in Japan are likely affected by multiple factors. Infectious disease complications are a significant burden to transplant recipients and account for approximately 30% of recipient mortality in Japan,...
