Modified surgical incision suturing technique in uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic pulmonary resection
CONCLUSIONS: Our modified suture method reduces the chance of infection and splitting and the severity of postoperative incision scar formation, promoting early healing. It can be safely and effectively applied to the incision suture of uniportal thoracoscopic pulmonary resection, enhancing the rapid postoperative recovery of patients.PMID:38505070 | PMC:PMC10944763 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1968 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

The effect of infectious diseases on lung transplantation in Japan
J Thorac Dis. 2024 Feb 29;16(2):1632-1644. doi: 10.21037/jtd-22-1884. Epub 2024 Feb 27.ABSTRACTLung transplantation in Japan is an increasingly accessible treatment option for end-stage lung disease; however, the lack of donor organs is a persisting challenge. Five- and 10-year survival rates of lung transplant recipients in Japan are comparable, if not superior, to international standards. The outcomes of lung transplantation in Japan are likely affected by multiple factors. Infectious disease complications are a significant burden to transplant recipients and account for approximately 30% of recipient mortality in Japan,...

Surgical-decision making in the setting of unsuspected N2 disease: a cost-effectiveness analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Treatment of stage IIIa lung cancer requires the input of a multidisciplinary team who must consider cost, quality of life, and overall survival. As new treatments are developed, further analyses should be performed to determine optimal therapy.PMID:38505073 | PMC:PMC10944766 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1538 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

Differential response to roflumilast in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: real-world evidence
CONCLUSIONS: The benefit of roflumilast in moderate-to-severe exacerbations was estimated to be greater in specific subgroups of patients with COPD. Personalised approaches to roflumilast based on clinical phenotypes would be effective for COPD.PMID:38505074 | PMC:PMC10944795 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1129 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

Cerebral protection in acute type A aortic dissection surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated that the ACP and RCP are both safe and acceptable techniques to use in emergent settings. The uACP technique is equivalent to bACP in terms of PND and mortality, however, uACP is preferred over bACP in terms of TND.PMID:38505075 | PMC:PMC10944792 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1039 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

Anti-titin antibodies in a cohort of myasthenia gravis patients
CONCLUSIONS: The presence of anti-titin antibodies appears to correlate with underlying thymoma in early-onset MG cases and with generalized MG in late-onset cases. Improvement of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis through a combination of < em > Astragalus < /em > radix and < em > Angelica sinensis < /em > radix via mammalian target of rapamycin signaling pathway-induced autophagy in rat
CONCLUSIONS: The combination of AR and AS protects against IPF by inducing autophagy via inhibiting the mTOR signaling pathway. The synergistic action of AR and AS is superior to that of either AR or AS alone.PMID:38505077 | PMC:PMC10944740 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-24-28 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

Anatomical distribution and clinical significance of translobar bronchi, arteries, and veins hidden in the interlobar fissure
CONCLUSIONS: Translobar bronchovascular structures exhibited a high incidence and were more commonly present in IIFs. Surgeons should pay increased attention to these structures to prevent accidental injuries during anatomical pulmonary resection.PMID:38505079 | PMC:PMC10944793 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1534 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

Effects of case volume on short- and long-term outcomes following cadaveric lung transplantation in Japan
CONCLUSIONS: Case volume did not have effects on short- or long-term outcomes following LT in Japan, while there were large variations in long-term outcomes among the LV centers compared to those of the HV centers.PMID:38505082 | PMC:PMC10944781 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-90 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

Histopathologic fate of resected pulmonary pure ground glass nodule: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: The portion of IA in cases of pure GGN is significantly larger that expected. More than half of them owned invasiveness components if MIA and IA were combined. Furthermore, there were quite number of lesions with aggressive histologic patterns other than the lepidic subtype. Therefore, further attempts are necessary to differentiate advanced histologic subtype among radiologically favorable pure GGN.PMID:38505083 | PMC:PMC10944737 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1089 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

High flow nasal oxygen < em > vs. < /em > conventional oxygen therapy over respiratory oxygenation index after esophagectomy: an observational study
CONCLUSIONS: HFNC improved the ROX index after esophagectomy through significant respiratory rate reduction. This tool should be considered for early respiratory support after extubation in this category of patients, not only as a rescue therapy for ARF, but also to optimize early postoperative respiratory function. Whether this will improve patients' outcomes requires further large randomized controlled trials.PMID:38505084 | PMC:PMC10944724 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1176 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)
