A real-world exploration into clinical outcomes of direct oral anticoagulant therapy in people with chronic kidney disease: a large hospital-based study
CONCLUSIONS: A positive effect of DOAC therapy was observed in advanced CKD. Key factors influencing clinical outcomes following DOAC administration in patients in different stages of CKD were identified. These are crucial for designing more advanced studies to explore safer and more effective DOAC therapy for the population.PMID:38564072 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-024-01930-x (Source: Journal of Nephrology)

Effect of a single small volume fluid bolus with balanced or un-balanced fluids on chloride and acid-base status: a prospective randomized pilot study (the FLURES-trial)
CONCLUSION: Even a single, small bolus of saline, administered to critically ill patients, causes a significant increase in chloride concentration and a decrease in apparent strong ion difference and base excess, and an increase in the number of patients developing hyperchloremia. No difference in effect on urinary output, blood pressure or vasopressor need was observed between the two groups.EUDRACT NUMBER: 2014-001005-41; date of registration: 28/10/2014.LOCAL EC APPROVAL: EC project number 2014/038.PMID:38546940 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-024-01912-z (Source: Journal of Nephrology)

FRAIL scale as a screening tool and a predictor of mortality in non-dialysis dependent patients
CONCLUSION: Physical frailty phenotype identifies more patients as having pre-frailty and frailty in non-dialysis dependent patients as compared to the FRAIL scale. However, the FRAIL scale is a simple bedside tool that can be useful for screening for frailty and whose results were associated with mortality.PMID:38530601 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-024-01900-3 (Source: Journal of Nephrology)

Comparison of blood volume biofeedback hemodialysis and conventional hemodialysis on cardiovascular stability and blood pressure control in hemodialysis patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
CONCLUSIONS: The use of blood volume tracking systems may be effective in reducing the incidence of intradialytic hypotension and allowing for easier attainment of the patients' ideal dry body weight. New studies to examine the long-term effects of the use of blood volume tracking systems on real hard endpoints are needed.PMID:38530603 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-023-01844-0 (Source: Journal of Nephrology)
