Residents' satisfaction and suggestions to improve nephrology residency in Italy, and comparison with the organization in other European countries
CONCLUSIONS: This first nationwide survey on the satisfaction of residents in nephrology indicates that, despite rather good overall satisfaction, there is room for improvement to make nephrology a more appealing choice and to fulfill the needs of a growing number of renal disease patients.PMID:38492168 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-024-01901-2 (Source: Journal of Nephrology)

Kidney supportive care for advanced chronic and end-stage kidney disease: a retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: This study reports on the first steps taken to change practice in nephrology, by applying the Italian guideline for an integrated pathway of palliative care in nephrology. Nephrologists' and the palliative care team created a multi- and inter-disciplinary team, sharing their professional skills to support patients in hospice or at home.PMID:38446384 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-023-01879-3 (Source: Journal of Nephrology)

Physical activity and exercise programs for kidney patients: an Italian survey of nephrology centres
CONCLUSION: This survey highlights the limited availability of exercise programs and physical activity evaluation in clinical practice in Italian Nephrology Centres. However, the survey also revealed a strong interest for counselling CKD patients on physical activity and implementing exercise prescriptions and interventions.PMID:38446385 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-024-01896-w (Source: Journal of Nephrology)

Kidney transplants from elderly donors: what we have learned 20  years after the Crystal City consensus criteria meeting
J Nephrol. 2024 Mar 6. doi: 10.1007/s40620-024-01888-w. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBased on the current projection of the general population and the combined increase in end-stage kidney disease with age, the number of elderly donors and recipients is increasing, raising crucial questions about how to minimize the discard rate of organs from elderly donors and improve graft and patient outcomes. In 2002, extended criteria donors were the focus of a meeting in Crystal City (VA, USA), with a goal of maximizing the use of organs from deceased donors. Since then, extended criteria donors have progressively contributed to a ...
