Elevated hemoglobin levels in renal transplant recipients with polycystic kidney disease versus other etiologies: exploring mechanisms and implications for outcomes
CONCLUSIONS: Kidney transplant recipients with ADPKD exhibited elevated hemoglobin levels post-transplant, possibly due to prolonged native kidney erythropoietin production. These elevated hemoglobin levels were linked to improved outcomes, including allograft function and patient survival. Future research should further investigate the underlying mechanisms driving favorable ADPKD KTR outcomes.PMID:38427307 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-023-01868-6 (Source: Journal of Nephrology)

Investigating the role of ultrasound-based shear wave elastography in kidney transplanted patients: correlation between non-invasive fibrosis detection, kidney dysfunction and biopsy results-a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Our results showed a moderate correlation between kidney stiffness measured by shear wave elastography and biopsy results. While noninvasive assessment of kidney fibrosis after transplantation is an important clinical goal, there is insufficient evidence to support the use of elastography over the performance of a kidney biopsy.PMID:38427308 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-023-01856-w (Source: Journal of Nephrology)

Examining the association between serum galactose-deficient IgA1 and primary IgA nephropathy: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Serum Gd-IgA1 levels were not associated with validated prognostic risk factors, but were negatively correlated with kidney function. Further research in larger studies using standardized assays are needed to establish the value of Gd-IgA1 as a prognostic risk factor in IgAN.PMID:38427309 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-023-01874-8 (Source: Journal of Nephrology)

Case report: renal recovery in Goodpasture's syndrome treated with rituximab
We report the case of a 20-year-old male patient with Goodpasture's (anti-GBM) syndrome, with poor prognostic factors at presentation including intra-alveolar hemorrhage and dialysis-dependent rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis. The diagnosis was confirmed on kidney biopsy and serology (anti-GBM antibody titer). Rituximab was used as the first-line immunosuppressive agent in combination with pulse corticosteroids and plasmapheresis, to avoid potential side effects of cyclophosphamide. Anti-GBM antibody titers became undetectable after initiating rituximab. No adverse events were reported, and the patient became dialysi...
