Estimation of excess cardiovascular deaths after COVID-19 in 2020
Post-COVID-19 sequelae are a serious concern of public health, as reported by Fang et al. in this journal 1. Furthermore, the incidence of cardiovascular diseases is increased after COVID-19 2,3. Cardiovascular diseases are the major cause of death around the world 4. Therefore, the impact of cardiovascular diseases among post-COVID-19 patients is likely significant. However, we could not directly count the number of cardiovascular deaths induced by COVID-19 because the infection history of patients with cardiovascular diseases after recovery from COVID-19 is not always available.
