SARS-CoV-2 Delta and Omicron community transmission networks as added value to contact tracing
Calculations of SARS-CoV-2 transmission networks at a population level have been limited. Networks that estimate infections between individuals and whether this results in a mutation, can be a way to evaluate fitness of a mutational clone by how much it expands in number as well as determining the likelihood a transmission results in a new variant. Donor respiratory multidrug-resistant bacteria and lung transplantation outcomes
Respiratory culture screening is mandatory for all potential lung transplant donors. There is limited evidence on the significance of donor multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria on transplant outcomes. Establishing the safety of allografts colonized with MDR bacteria has implications for widening an already limited donor pool. (Source: Journal of Infection)

Stillbirths due to placental COVID infection associated with chronic histiocytic intervillositis do not recur in subsequent pregnancies
During the COVID-19 pandemic, when the SARS-CoV-2 B1.617.2 (Delta) variant was dominant, infected pregnant women had a 4-fold increased risk of stillbirth compared with non-infected women (2.70% vs. 0.63%)1. The placenta in these stillbirths showed COVID placentitis, a combination of SARS-CoV-2 within the syncytiotrophoblast and a triad of histological features: chronic histiocytic intervillositis, trophoblast necrosis, and massive perivillous fibrin deposition. COVID placentitis only occurred in a minority of women who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in pregnancy (~1.5%)2. (Source: Journal of Infection)

Diagnosis and treatment of Tropheryma whipplei infection in patients with inflammatory rheumatic disease: data from the French Tw-IRD registry
Tropheryma whipplei infection can manifest as inflammatory joint symptoms, which can lead to misdiagnosis of inflammatory rheumatic disease and the use of disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs. We investigated the impact of diagnosis and treatment of Tropheryma whipplei infection in patients with inflammatory rheumatic disease. (Source: Journal of Infection)

Economic burden attributable to healthcare-associated infections at western China hospitals: 6 year, prospective cohort study
Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) represent a major threat to patient safety and are associated with significant economic burden. Calculating the costs attributable to HAIs is challenging given the various sources of bias. Although HAIs as a reasonably preventable medical harm should have been closely linked to medical insurance incentives, there was little linkage between HAIs and medicare in western China owing to the lack of economic evaluation data. The present study aimed to generate estimates of the attributable costs associated with HAIs and the magnitude of costs growth. (Source: Journal of Infection)

Development and validation of the Baseline Recurrence Risk in Cellulitis (BRRISC) score
Cellulitis is often treated with antibiotics for longer than recommended by guidelines. Prolonged therapy may reduce recurrence in certain patients, but it is not known which patients are at greatest risk. Our objective was to develop and temporally validate a risk prediction score to identify patients attending hospital with cellulitis at highest risk of recurrence. (Source: Journal of Infection)
