Predictors of HBsAg seroclearance in patients with chronic HBV infection treated with pegylated interferon- α: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsThis is the first meta-analysis to identify predictors of HBsAg seroclearance with PegIFN α-based regimens, including baseline and on-treatment factors, which is valuable in developing a better integrated predictive model for HBsAg seroclearance to guide individualized treatment and achieve the highest cost-effectiveness of PegIFNα. Pre-hepatectomy dynamic circulating tumor DNA to predict pathologic response to preoperative chemotherapy and post-hepatectomy recurrence in patients with colorectal liver metastases
ConclusionsPre-hepatectomy dynamic monitoring of ctDNA could predict pathologic response to preoperative chemotherapy and post-hepatectomy recurrence in CRLM patients. Negative ctDNA after preoperative chemotherapy was associated with better tumor regression grade and recurrence-free survival, which might be used to guide pre-hepatectomy chemotherapy and predict prognosis. Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver clinical practice guidelines on liver transplantation
AbstractLiver transplantation is a highly complex and challenging field of clinical practice. Although it was originally developed in western countries, it has been further advanced in Asian countries through the use of living donor liver transplantation. This method of transplantation is the only available option in many countries in the Asia-Pacific region due to the lack of deceased organ donation. As a result of this clinical situation, there is a growing need for guidelines that are specific to the Asia-Pacific region. These guidelines provide comprehensive recommendations for evidence-based management throughout the ...

Dairy products intake and prevalence, incidence, and recovery of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in Chinese population
ConclusionDairy product intake of more than one serving per day was associated with a lower prevalence and incidence of NAFLD in Chinese population. However, total dairy intake did not show significant association in NAFLD reversal. (Source: Hepatology International)

Chinese guideline for the diagnosis and treatment of drug-induced liver injury: an update
AbstractDrug-induced liver injury (DILI) is an important adverse drug reaction that can lead to acute liver failure or even death in severe cases. Currently, the diagnosis of DILI still follows the strategy of exclusion. Therefore, a detailed history taking and a thorough and careful exclusion of other potential causes of liver injury is the key to correct diagnosis. This guideline was developed based on evidence-based medicine provided by the latest research advances and aims to provide professional guidance to clinicians on how to identify suspected DILI timely and standardize the diagnosis and management in clinical pra...

Functional cure is associated with younger age in children undergoing antiviral treatment for active chronic hepatitis B
ConclusionResults of the present study demonstrated that children aged 1 – <  7 years, with active CHB can achieve a high functional cure rate by undergoing antiviral therapy compared to those aged ≥ 7 years, who undergo antiviral therapy. These data support the use of antiviral treatment at an early age in children with CHB. However, future prospectively randomize d controlled trials are necessary to validate the findings of this study.Graphical AbstractThe younger age, the higher functional cure rate in children with chronic hepatitis B undergoing on-time antiviral treatment. Preventing viral relapse with prophylactic tenofovir in hepatitis B carriers receiving chemotherapy: a phase IV randomized study in Taiwan
ConclusionsThe 24-week preventative TDF has comparable efficacy to the 48-week treatment in virologic and clinical relapse. High baseline HBsAg or HBV DNA is associated with a higher risk of HBV relapse. These findings imply a 24-week duration of TDF treatment with a close monitor for patients with a high baseline viral load.Lay summaryHepatitis B virus infection is a prominent cause of liver cancer and chronic liver disease and affected millions of people worldwide. When HBV-infected people are exposed to immunosuppressive medication or chemotherapy for cancer, the chance of HBV reactivation rises considerably. This trial...

Artificial intelligence in liver imaging: methods and applications
AbstractLiver disease is regarded as one of the major health threats to humans. Radiographic assessments hold promise in terms of addressing the current demands for precisely diagnosing and treating liver diseases, and artificial intelligence (AI), which excels at automatically making quantitative assessments of complex medical image characteristics, has made great strides regarding the qualitative interpretation of medical imaging by clinicians. Here, we review the current state of medical-imaging-based AI methodologies and their applications concerning the management of liver diseases. We summarize the representative AI ...

FXR-FGF19 signaling in the gut –liver axis is dysregulated in patients with cirrhosis and correlates with impaired intestinal defence
ConclusionsFXR-FGF19 signaling is dysregulated at essential molecular intersections along the gut –liver axis in patients with cirrhosis. Decreased FXR activation in the ileum mucosa was linked to reduced expression of intestinal barrier proteins. These human data call for further mechanistic research on interventions targeting the FXR-FGF19 pathway in patients with cirrhosis.Clinical trial number: NCT03267615Graphical abstractPhysiology of enterohepatic FXR-FGF19 signaling and its regulation in patients with advanced chronic liver disease (ACLD).
