Impact of metabolic factors on risk of cardiovascular disease in nondiabetic metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease
ConclusionDiabetic MAFLD predicted high-risk CVD phenotypes the best. Metabolic risk abnormalities in nondiabetic MAFLD patients were independently associated with the risk of CVD. The proposed diagnostic criteria for nondiabetic MAFLD need further investigation in terms of CVD risk. (Source: Hepatology International)

Messenger RNA electroporated hepatitis B virus (HBV) antigen-specific T cell receptor (TCR) redirected T cell therapy is well-tolerated in patients with recurrent HBV-related hepatocellular carcinoma post-liver transplantation: results from a phase I trial
ConclusionThis study has demonstrated that multiple infusions of mRNA electroporated HBV-specific TCR T cells were well-tolerated in patients with HBV-positive recurrent HCC post-liver transplant. (Source: Hepatology International)

OHCCPredictor: an online risk stratification model for predicting survival duration of older patients with hepatocellular carcinoma
ConclusionsAge, sex, marital status, T stage, N stage, surgery, chemotherapy, tumor size, AFP level, fibrosis score, bone metastasis, lung metastasis, and grade were independent prognostic factors for elderly patients with HCC. The constructed nomogram model based on the above factors could accurately predict the prognosis of such patients. Besides, the developed online web interface of the predictive model provide easily obtained access for clinicians. (Source: Hepatology International)

Laparoscopic and open liver resection for hepatocellular carcinoma with type 2 diabetes mellitus: multicenter propensity score-matched study
ConclusionsLaparoscopic liver resection for HCC patients with T2DM can be safely performed with favorable perioperative and long-term oncological outcomes at high-volume liver cancer centers, regardless of the course of T2DM. (Source: Hepatology International)

Liver-derived extracellular vesicles from patients with hepatitis B virus-related acute-on-chronic liver failure impair hepatic regeneration by inhibiting on FGFR2 signaling via miR-218-5p
ConclusionThe current data reveal the mechanism underlying impaired liver regeneration in HBV-ACLF that promotes the discovery of new therapeutic approaches.Graphical abstract (Source: Hepatology International)

Efficacy and safety of lenvatinib plus PD-1 inhibitor with or without transarterial chemoembolization in unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma
ConclusionTriple therapy of lenvatinib, PD-1 inhibitor, and TACE may achieve more favorable survival benefits than dual therapy of lenvatinib and PD-1 inhibitor in unresectable HCC patients with manageable safety profiles. (Source: Hepatology International)

Development of a deep pathomics score for predicting hepatocellular carcinoma recurrence after liver transplantation
ConclusionsThis study established an effective DPS. Immune cells were the most significant histological structure related to HCC recurrence. DPS performed well in post-LT recurrence prediction and the identification of clinicopathological features. (Source: Hepatology International)

Endoscopic band ligation is safe despite low platelet count and high INR
ConclusionEBL is safe and procedure-related bleedings are rare (2.6%) including in patients with thrombocytopenia  <  50 G/L or high INR ≥ 1.5. Only high MELD, and especially high bilirubin seem to be linked to an increased risk of EBL-related bleeding. (Source: Hepatology International)

Transcatheter arterial chemoembolization plus apatinib with or without camrelizumab for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma: a multicenter retrospective cohort study
ConclusionsBoth TACE plus apatinib and TACE combined with apatinib plus camrelizumab were feasible in patients with unresectable HCC, with manageable safety profiles. Moreover, TACE combined with apatinib plus camrelizumab showed additional benefit. (Source: Hepatology International)
