Effect of bromodomain PHD-finger transcription factor (BPTF) on trophoblast epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition
In conclusion, BPTF participates in the regulation of trophoblast EMT by activating Slug expression, suggesting that BPTF defects are an important factor in RM pathogenesis.PMID:38521110 | DOI:10.1016/j.gene.2024.148405 (Source: Gene)

Comprehensive identification and analysis of DUF640 genes associated with rice growth
In this study, 61 DUF640 genes were identified in the Oryza genus. The expression of DUF640s is induced by multiple hormonal stressors including abscisic acid (ABA), cytokinin (CK), ethylene (ETH), and indole-3-acetic acid (IAA). Specifically, OiDUF640-10 expression significantly increased after ETH treatment. Transgenic experiments showed that overexpressing OiDUF640-10 lines were sensitive to ETH, and seedling length was obstructed. Evolutionary analysis revealed differentiation of the OiDUF640-10 gene in O. sativa ssp. indica and japonica varieties, likely driven by natural selection during the domestication of cultivat...

Microarray analysis of tRNA-derived small RNA (tsRNA) in LPS-challenged macrophages treated with metformin
Gene. 2024 Mar 20:148399. doi: 10.1016/j.gene.2024.148399. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMetformin, a widely used anti-diabetic drug, has demonstrated its efficacy in addressing various inflammatory conditions. tRNA-derived small RNA (tsRNA), a novel type of small non-coding RNA, exhibits diverse regulatory functions and holds promise as both a diagnostic biomarker and a therapeutic target for various diseases. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether the abundance of tsRNAs changed in LPS versus LPS + metformin-treated cells, utilizing microarray technology. Firstly, we established an in vitro lipopolysaccharid...

miRNA-27a-3p is involved in the plasticity of differentiated hepatocytes
CONCLUSIONS: Modulation of H3K27me3 methylation in differentiated HepaRG cells, by GSK-J4 treatment, influenced miRNA' s expression profile pushing liver cells towards a proliferating phenotype. We demonstrated the involvement of miR-27a-3p in reinducing proliferation of differentiated hepatocytes suggesting a potential role in liver plasticity.PMID:38499211 | DOI:10.1016/j.gene.2024.148387 (Source: Gene)

Mitochondrial genes modulate the phenotypic expression of congenital scoliosis syndrome caused by mutations in the TBXT gene
CONCLUSION: We described the possible role of mtDNA genetics on the pathogenesis of congenital scoliosis by hypothesizing that the presence of the homozygous variant in TBXT accounts for the CS phenotype in our patient and the MT-ND3 gene may act as a modifier gene.PMID:38499212 | DOI:10.1016/j.gene.2024.148388 (Source: Gene)

ChaC1 upregulation reflects poor prognosis in a variety of cancers: analysis of the major missense SNPs of ChaC1 as an aid to refining prognosis
This study highlights the importance of ChaC1 in cancer prognosis across a wide variety of cancers. Additionally, the information on the SNPs of ChaC1 with altered enzymatic activities would improve the prognostic ability of these panels and facilitate treatment regimens.PMID:38499213 | DOI:10.1016/j.gene.2024.148386 (Source: Gene)

Functional relevance of MMP2 promoter variants in gallbladder cancer: A case-control study in an Eastern Indian Population
This study aimed to investigate the genetic factors contributing to the high incidence of GBC in certain geographical regions, particularly in the Northern and Eastern parts of India. The present case-control study focused on MMP2, a gene involved in tumor progression and metastasis, as a potential candidate in GBC pathogenesis. We scanned MMP2 promoter for twelve SNPs using Sanger's sequencing and carried out a case-control study in 300 cases and 300 control samples. We found five rare variants (rs1961998763, rs1961996235, rs1391392808, rs1488656253, and rs17859816) and one nonpolymorphic SNP (rs17859817). Our results rev...
