Genomic characterization, phylogenetic and expression analysis of foraging gene in Apis mellifera
Gene. 2024 Feb 24:148318. doi: 10.1016/j.gene.2024.148318. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe genomic characterization of the foraging gene and its expression analysis are required to better understand the behavior of honey bees (Apis mellifera). The present study performed a genome-wide characterization of the foraging gene, analyzing its physicochemical properties, phylogenetic features, and expression. An in silico analysis was carried out to characterize the foraging gene and the motifs and conserved domains of the encoded protein to predict its physicochemical properties. Moreover, a phylogenetic analysis of the foragi...

PHDtools: A platform for pathogen detection and multi-dimensional genetic signatures decoding to realize pathogen genomics data analyses online
CONCLUSIONS: Consequently, the application of PHDtools has proved that this platform is accurate, user-friendly and convenient for clinical users who are deficient in bioinformatics, and the clinical monitor of SARS-CoV-2 genomes by PHDtools also highlighted the potential evolution features of current SARS-CoV-2 and indicated that the development of anti-SARS-CoV-2 agents and new-designed vaccines should incorporate the gene variations other than S gene.PMID:38408616 | DOI:10.1016/j.gene.2024.148306 (Source: Gene)

Curative effect of the total saponins of Panax japonicus (TSPJ) on type 2 diabetes: Focusing on VEGFA
CONCLUSIONS: TSPJ administration and VEGFA overexpression yield similar effects on T2DM in mice. Thus, in terms of mechanism, by upregulating the expression of VEGFA, TSPJ may ameliorate metabolic imbalance, preserve intestinal homeostasis, and lessen the symptoms of type 2 diabetes. The findings demonstrated the viability of using VEGFA as a type 2 diabetes therapy option and offered important insights into the therapeutic mechanisms by TSPJ in the management of T2DM. To determine the exact mechanisms behind the effects of TSPJ and VEGFA and to assess their potential therapeutic uses, more research efforts are necessary.P...

Antagonism of let-7c reduces atherosclerosis and macrophage lipid accumulation by promoting PGC-1 α/LXRα/ABCA1/G1 pathway
Gene. 2024 Feb 22:148302. doi: 10.1016/j.gene.2024.148302. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChanges in circulating let-7c were significantly associated with the alter in lipid profile, but its role in intracellular lipid metabolism remains unknown. This work was conducted to explore the effects of let-7c on the lipid accumulation in macrophages and uncover the underlying mechanism. Our results showed that let-7c inhibition relieved atherosclerosis progression in apoE-/- mice. In ox-LDL-treatment macrophages, let-7c knockdown suppressed lipid accumulation but does no affect cholesterol intake. Consistent with this, overexpress...

CircPAN3/miR-221/PTEN axis and apoptosis in myocardial Infarction: Quercetin's regulatory effects
Gene. 2024 Feb 23;909:148316. doi: 10.1016/j.gene.2024.148316. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe circular RNA/microRNA/mRNA axis is a new layer of non-coding RNA(ncRNA)-based regulatory gene expression networks upstream of numerous cell signaling pathways. Circular RNAPAN3 (circPAN3) is involved in autophagy, fibrosis and apoptosis which are responsible for the reduction incardiac functional capacityfollowingmyocardial infarction(MI). However, the molecular mechanism of circPAN3 association with apoptosis is unknown. In addition, the relationship between quercetin as a cardioprotective factor in MI and circular RNA-depende...

The Metabarcoding of Grubs: Traditional Herbal Medicine of Scarabaeidae Larvae
Gene. 2024 Feb 22:148303. doi: 10.1016/j.gene.2024.148303. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGrubs, called Qicao in China, have a long tradition as herbal medicine in East Asia. These larvae belong to the diverse family Scarabaeidae and are typically harvested from the wild during their immature stage based on morphological characteristics. However, rapid and accurate identification becomes challenging when relying solely on external morphological features, as the lack of clarity on biological sources raises safety concerns for clinical applications. The application of DNA metabarcoding provides a solution by enabling the dete...
