Capsular neuroma causing chronic pain in women with breast implants
ConclusionsA sound understanding of sensory innervation of the breast is paramount to the initial surgery, followed by a comprehensive diagnostic workup of chronic breast pain. This case series highlights the importance of assessing and diagnosing post-operative neurogenic chronic breast pain in aesthetic reconstructive patients. The onset and symptoms have great variability, but preceding traumatic events after surgery at some point in time are key to the timeline. Once underlying medical causes have been excluded, comprehensive imaging modalities and conservative therapy should be sought before surgical intervention for r...

3D soft tissue printing —from vision to reality—review of current concepts
ConclusionsDue to the importance of 3D bioprinting and the never-ending progress in this field and its contribution to the field of medicine in term of clinical implementations, we believe that surgeons and physicians alike should familiarize themselves with the basic concepts of 3D-bio printing in order to keep track of the ever-growing literature of this fascinating sphere. We believe that a stepwise exposure of young physicians to this field is mandatory, from their basic science training through their internship and continuing advanced education.Level of evidence: Not gradable. A cohort study on neuropathic pain of the saphenous nerve —factors influencing surgical outcome
ConclusionsPatients with injury to the saphenous nerve should be coached toward smoking cessation. Whenever possible, forgoing opiate treatment might be beneficial.Level of evidence: Level IV, Risk/Prognostic. (Source: European Journal of Plastic Surgery)

The corrugator supercilii for craniofacial reconstruction: a systematic review
ConclusionsThe form of this muscle is still unclear. However, this information may increase practitioner confidence when this muscle is reproduced for forensic facial reconstruction. This is in comparison to those with a lot of confidence who currently use no data at all.Level of evidence: Not ratable. (Source: European Journal of Plastic Surgery)

A novel soft tissue graft alternative in rhinoplasty: the buccal fat graft
ConclusionsIn rhinoplasties combined with bichectomy, buccal fat pad may be utilized as a soft-tissue graft source. It also may be used as a soft-tissue graft in selected rhinoplasties without a planned bichectomy.Level of evidence: Level IV, therapeutic study (Source: European Journal of Plastic Surgery)

A novel use for the  biodegradable temporizing matrix
We present the case of a patient with a wound to the right foot and ankle following extravasation injury. Following surgical debridement, this injury was managed with BTM, which allowed granulation and production of a “neo-dermis”. A split-thickness skin graft was subsequently applied. The characteristics of the BTM allowed the resulting skin graft and scar to be plia ble, avoiding tendon tethering and joint contracture. To the authors’ knowledge, this skin substitute has not been reported in a wound of this aetiology before. It is our hope that this report will provide evidence to colleagues that this is a valuable ...

Computer-aided design and manufacturing technology applied to total nasal reconstruction
AbstractThe principles of nasal reconstruction include the need to reconstruct three tissue layers, the need to restore entire skin aesthetical units, and, possibly, the replacement with like tissues. Computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) technologies were applied to two total nasal reconstructions in male patients who underwent rhinectomy for cancer. Three-dimensional (3D) data were obtained from computerized tomography (CT) scan-derived DICOM files (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine), this allowed us to design the shape of the reconstructive nose in order to mimic the native nose...

Primary —but not secondary—adjuvant fat transfer is associated with good patient satisfaction in mammoplasty: a single centre retrospective case series
ConclusionsSmall breast contour deformities or prosthesis coverage can be easily corrected with fat transfer. Based on our score system, this technique is indicated for volume enhancement up to 100  ml; beyond that the outcome quality decreases, and further corrections would be needed.Level of evidence: Level IV, Therapeutic. The effect of targeted muscle reinnervation on post-amputation pain and functional outcomes: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsDespite varying study quality, pooled analysis shows a significant reduction in RLP and PLP across all PROMIS domains and significant reduction in NRS scores in the TMR group. Additionally, TMR demonstrated improved functional outcomes for amputees.Systematic review registration.PROSPERO CRD42021285083.Level of evidence: Not gradable (Source: European Journal of Plastic Surgery)

Hemi-hamate donor site morbidity and complications: a systematic review
ConclusionDonor site morbidity resulting from harvesting an osteochondral graft for a hemi-hamate arthroplasty is low. The overall quality of evidence from the studies in this review is low, highlighting the need for further robust prospective trials.Level of evidenceNot gradable. New technique for the reconstruction of the finger tip amputation: the  double wing transposition flap
ConclusionsThe double wing transposition flap is a simple procedure for fingertip reconstruction. It can be done relatively fast, which does not need dissection of the neurovascular pedicles, and can be used in the reconstruction of transverse, volar oblique, and dorsal oblique fingertip amputations.Level of evidence: Level IV, Therapeutic  study. Oncoplastic breast surgery in elderly primary breast cancer: time to serve more surgically?
ConclusionsWhilst OBS-related benefits certainly should be weighed against the increased risks of a longer operative time and recovery, balanced considerations should be made when considering the escalation of systemic adjuvant treatments and related side-effects vis- à-vis de-escalation of surgery and relation to physical and psychological considerations.Level of Evidence: Level IV, Risk / Prognostic Study.
