Soft tissue reconstruction of combat-related injuries affecting the lower limb: is a time target realistic? A systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsThe choice of flap used in lower limb combat-related injuries is dependent upon the type, extent and location of injury. Onus should be placed on ensuring the wound is adequately debrided prior to definitive coverage to provide a healthy wound bed for reconstruction.Level of Evidence: Not gradable (Source: European Journal of Plastic Surgery)

Factors contributing to prolonged drain duration in prepectoral staged implant-based breast reconstruction
ConclusionsIn patients undergoing prepectoral staged implant-based reconstruction, BMI above the obese threshold increases the risk of prolonged drain duration. In contrast to prior studies performed in autologous reconstruction and subpectoral reconstruction, other demographic and perioperative factors were not significant predictors of prolonged drain. Given the increasing prevalence and preference for prepectoral breast reconstruction, this study can be used to guide postoperative management concerning drain removal and follow-up parameters.Level of evidence: Level III, Risk/Prognostic (Source: European Journal of Plastic Surgery)

The free vascularized fibula flap for long bone reconstruction in adults — a systematic review and regional centre experience
ConclusionsThis systematic review highlights the versatility of the FVFF in long bone reconstruction of the limbs. This review provides clarification on the low morbidity associated with this procedure and the high functional outcomes as reported by the patients themselves.Level of evidence: Level IV, Risk/Prognostic; Therapeutic. The spiral flap for breast auto-augmentation revisited
ConclusionsSpiral flap represents a good option for breast auto-augmentation in massive weight loss patients. In addition to the upper body lift achieved, the use of a superior pedicle for NAC provides a better superior fullness for the breast mound. A longer follow-up, a larger sample size, and comparative studies are needed to achieve a stronger argument and a higher level of evidence.Level of evidence: Level IV, Therapeutic. Electrical burn injuries: disabling lives even in 2022
ConclusionsIncreased incidences of electric injuries suggest the need to make sure of safety regulations and awareness programs regarding electric appliances handling at every national level.Level of evidence: Level V, Risk/Prognostic. (Source: European Journal of Plastic Surgery)

Reconstructive procedure for treatment of trochanteric pressure ulcers in spinal-cord-injured patients
ConclusionsConclusionsWe believe that the described approach can be  useful to treat trochanteric sores and to reduce the recurrence rate. Muscle flaps seem to be superior to fasciocutaneous or perforator flaps in this site.Level of evidence: Level III, therapeutic study. (Source: European Journal of Plastic Surgery)

Cranial reconstruction with polyetheretherketone patient-specific implant: a  single-center experience
ConclusionPEEK serves as an outstanding material for cranial reconstruction. It is associated with a relatively low complication rate. However, the design of the implant should be modified to achieve a superior aesthetic outcome and reduce temporal depression.Level of evidence: Level IV, Therapeutic. Caudal chondro-mucoperichondrial flap for the correction of caudal septal deviation
ConclusionsCCMF is a useful alternative to management of CSD. In addition, the CSD classification developed in this study can be a useful for future studies. However, the experience of the surgical method by different surgeons will yield more meaningful results.Level of evidence: Level IV, Therapeutic. (Source: European Journal of Plastic Surgery)

Sensitive peripheral nerve repair during COVID-19 emergency: does the outpatient surgical setting work as well as the operating theater?
ConclusionsNerve repair on an outpatient facility is technically feasible and was found in this study to be safe and effective. Compared to hospitalization, the outpatient setting has a more “agile” organization and lower costs, making it preferable in selected cases.Level of evidence: Level IV, Therapeutic.
