Abdominal compartment syndrome, not a rare phenomenon in patients with major burn injury
ConclusionIn the current study, patients with circumferential abdominal burns with total body surface area more than 40% frequently develop intra-abdominal hypertension and abdominal compartment syndrome, and patient mortality is significant. Burn patients must be constantly monitored for intra-abdominal hypertension, and measurements of intra-abdominal hypertension should be taken in all severe burns to prevent fatal complications.Level of evidenceLevel V, Risk/Prognostic (Source: European Journal of Plastic Surgery)

Superficial temporal and occipital arteries in free flap scalp reconstruction: anatomical and radiologic study
ConclusionsOccipital arteries are stable and reliable alternatives for free flap reconstruction of the scalp. Based on these anatomical and radiologic findings, the occipital artery, in its sub-cutaneous segment, can be used as a recipient vessel in scalp reconstruction, in case of flap with a short pedicle, vertex or parieto-occipital defects and especially in complex cases with missing external carotid system.Level of evidence: Level IV, diagnostic  study (Source: European Journal of Plastic Surgery)

The role and management of mineral supplementation in plastic surgery patients: a comprehensive review
ConclusionsPlastic surgeons should have open discussions with patients to learn about which mineral supplements they take and whether they are at risk for deficiency. This comprehensive review discusses and provide guidance surrounding chromium, copper, iron, magnesium, selenium, and zinc in the context of plastic surgery.Level of EvidenceNot ratable. The current state of undergraduate burn training within the UK: a national collaborative study
ConclusionsThis study demonstrates a lack of undergraduate exposure, teaching, and confidence in the basics of burn assessment and management. It calls for enhanced training at the undergraduate level, potentially incorporating simulation training to boost confidence in burn management.Level of evidence: Not ratable. Coverage for the vascular pedicle of a free fasciocutaneous flap using split thickness skin graft with auxiliary procedure to achieve a safe method with no impairment of vessels: a case series and literature review
ConclusionsDuring microvascular transfer of free flaps, if no skin flap is available to cover the vascular pedicle, skin graft can be used to protect the vessels without compromising the circulation of the flap.  Our results, in accordance with the literature, supports the safety of this technique when direct closure of the skin above and near the pedicle is not possible.Level of evidenceLevel IV, Therapeutic. Evaluating suturing methods for surgical repair of muscle belly lacerations: a scoping review of biomechanical studies
ConclusionsExisting literature evaluating the mechanics of muscle repair is limited by a lack of standardization. The included studies suggest that using sutures which incorporate the epimysium or using a combination of sutures that anchor the core of the muscle belly and encompass the perimeter may yield more robust  repairs than other techniques. However, further research using comparable experimental conditions is necessary to identify an ideal muscle belly repair technique.Level of evidence: Not gradable. The role and management of vitamin supplementation in plastic surgery patients: A comprehensive review
AbstractAfter reading this article about all the common essential vitamins, the participant should be able to (1) Explain their biological function and surgical relevance, (2) describe the clinical manifestations of deficiency and toxicity, and (3) provide general guidance regarding vitamins to plastic surgery patients in the perioperative setting.Vitamin deficiencies and toxicity can predispose patients to surgical complications and poor wound healing. Furthermore, vitamin supplement consumption among the general population has been increasing over time, providing the plastic surgeon the added responsibility to be informe...

Optimizing gluteal augmentation with hyaluronic acid: a comprehensive anthropometric study
This study seeks to establish an anthropometrically informed protocol for optimal HA infiltration, aiming to avoid unnatural outcomes. The study utilized Genefill Contour Plus for buttock reshaping. An oval was delineated, strategically positioned in relation to anatomical landmarks, and HA was injected through an 18-gauge cannula on the suprafascial plane. The protocol involved meticulous considerations of gluteal geometry. Sixty participants (55 females, 5 males) with a mean age of 35.5  years underwent HA buttock augmentation. The HA quantities ranged from 30 to 50 ml per buttock to enhance gluteal projection. All par...

Seal the fate: fixation of the nasal tip in rhinoplasty —the dom extension graft (DEG)
AbstractNasal tip surgery is an important component of rhinoplasty and it is a challenging issue including creating an ideal or aesthetical tip rotation and projection and keeping it during the long term. Columellar strut graft (CSG) and septal extension graft (SEG) are current and valid major surgical techniques that provide nasal tip support. Dom extension graft (DEG), which is a modification of SEG, aims to create a structure resistant to the forces loaded on the type supports in the long term by transferring the forces to columellar strut graft (CSG).Level of evidence: Level IV, Therapeutic  study (Source: European Jo...
