Bromelain-based enzymatic burn debridement: Spanish multidisciplinary consensus
ConclusionsThe present updated consensus document provides recommendations on the use of bromelain-based enzymatic debridement NexoBrid®, integrating the extensive clinical experience of plastic surgeons, intensivists, and anesthesiologists in Spain. Further clinical trials and studies are required to corroborate, modify, or fine tune the current statements.Level of evidence: Not ratable (Source: European Journal of Plastic Surgery)

The effect of human recombinant epidermal growth factor on capsule contraction in an irradiated rat model
ConclusionsDifferent rh-EGF doses were used in the study, and no significant effect was observed on capsule contraction. Different doses and durations may be considered to evaluate the effectiveness.Level of evidence: Not gradable (Source: European Journal of Plastic Surgery)

Guidance on the treatment of rare deep subcutaneous mycobacterium abscess following cosmetic procedures: a case series and systematic review of the literature
ConclusionA low index of suspicion for MA infection should be placed in patients who develop subcutaneous lesions post-cosmetic procedures. Infection is associated with a poor response to routine antimicrobials and negative bacterial cultures. Successful management requires a multi-disciplinary approach with input from the Infectious Diseases, Plastic Surgery and Radiological teams. With the rise in cosmetic surgery tourism, early recognition of MA is pertinent to reduce morbidity and healthcare burden from this rare but debilitating complication.Level of evidence: Level V, Therapeutic/Diagnostic. Minimally invasive approach for chin augmentation using a silicone implant
ConclusionsBased on our study, the intraoral minimal invasive surgical technique with a minimal transverse incision avoiding disruption of the mentalis muscle is recommended for its ease, simplicity, patient satisfaction, low complication rate, and circumvention of an external scar.Level of evidence: Level IV, Therapeutic. INTERPLAST-Germany —adapting to global plastic surgery
ConclusionsOperations of humanitarian plastic surgeons in developing countries are becoming increasingly difficult. Local health authorities require temporary surgical permits, customs offices try to clear surgical material and look at expiration dates of medicines, and pandemics complicate planning of INTERPLAST missions. It therefore seems increasingly necessary to go as single teacher, training engaged local surgeons and assisting operations. The alternative is inviting local surgeons to Western hospitals and introducing them to the basic skills of plastic surgery and empathy with the poor. However, the lack of recognit...

Role for platelet rich plasma as an adjuvant therapy in wound healing and burns
ConclusionsWith the current body of evidence, we conclude that the use of PRP as an adjuvant therapy in skin grafts, burns, carpal tunnel surgery or scars cannot be rationalised. A potential use of PRP is in donor site management but the cost of this would be difficult to justify.Level of evidence: Not ratable. (Source: European Journal of Plastic Surgery)

Baseline factors associated with split-thickness skin graft failure in burn patients: a retrospective observational analysis of a cohort of 69 burn patients
ConclusionsPatients with higher baseline white blood cell count have higher risk of skin graft failure compared to those with the same percentage of total body surface area of deep burns but lower baseline white blood cell count.Level of evidence: Level V, risk/prognostic (Source: European Journal of Plastic Surgery)

30  days postoperative outcome associated with vertical rectus abdominis myocutaneous (VRAM) flap reconstruction after pelvic surgery
ConclusionsPtVRAM flaps can be used in the reconstruction of pelvic defects following advanced malignancies in patients previously treated with neoadjuvant chemo- or radiotherapy. Our results fall well within the findings of other studies and add to our knowledge of the surgical implications of treating perineal defects.Level of Evidence: Level IV, risk / prognostic study. The preoperative risk factors for hematoma development following postbariatric abdominoplasty: a retrospective analysis of 178 patients
ConclusionsIt can be concluded that patients undergoing bariatric surgery are more likely to develop hematomas. Postabdominoplasty hematomas were more likely to develop in smokers, men, and those with a lower BMI. These risk factors should be considered and optimized by surgeons when counseling patients preoperatively.Level of evidence: Level V, risk/prognostic study. Distal ligation with proximal catheterization of short saphenous vein to decrease venous congestion in the distally based sural artery flap
ConclusionsDistal ligation of the short saphenous vein may prevent venous overloading from the foot and reduce sural flap venous congestion. Proximal catheterization of the vein to relieve flap congestion is an effective flap safety tool.Level of evidenceLevel V, Risk/Prognostic. (Source: European Journal of Plastic Surgery)

A recent national analysis of breast reconstruction outcomes in patients with underlying autoimmune connective tissue diseases
ConclusionsVascular complications remain a concern in patients with underlying CTDs, and the increased possibility of postoperative complications following reconstruction should be included in preoperative discussions in this population. However, wound dehiscence and postoperative infections are not as prevalent as previously reported. These findings suggest that optimization of thromboembolism prophylaxis should be emphasized.Level of evidence:  Level III, Risk/Prognostic. (Source: European Journal of Plastic Surgery)
