Safety and clinical outcomes associated with the routine use of tranexamic acid (TXA) in abdominal-based free flap autologous breast reconstruction — a case control study
ConclusionsAdministration of TXA was neither associated with any DVT nor with a risk of pedicle thrombosis or flap loss, when compared to a pre-TXA cohort. Seroma rate (1%) in our cohort was low. The LOS was significantly lower than the pre-TXA cohort. This study highlights the safety of the routine use of TXA in the setting of free flap breast reconstruction.Level of evidenceLevel III, Therapeutic. (Source: European Journal of Plastic Surgery)

Usefulness of nerve-sparing pedicled segmental latissimus dorsi muscle flap combined with lateral thoracic skin flap for partial volume reconstruction in laterally located breast cancer
ConclusionReplacement of 20 to 40% of breast volume in the upper and the lower outer quadrants with a latissimus dorsi muscle flap as nerve-sparing pedicled segmental flap that can be harvested from the same axillary incision of lymphadenectomy is a good alternative reconstruction technique after partial mastectomy. This resulted in an acceptable postoperative scar, less pain, and early upper extremity movement, so this technique is considered a useful and reliable technique in correcting breast deformity after breast-conserving surgery, especially in laterally located breast cancer.Level of evidence: Level IV, therapeutic...

Perioperative misgendering experiences in patients undergoing gender-affirming surgery: a call for a gender-inclusive healthcare environment
ConclusionsUntil now, the exact incidence of misgendering among patients seeking GAS have not been well established. Despite high levels of satisfaction, a large proportion still reported serious instances of misgendering. Improvements must be made to the perioperative experience to reduce misgendering and provide support and comfort during the sensitive period surrounding patients ’ gender transition.Level of evidence: Not gradable (Source: European Journal of Plastic Surgery)

Microsurgical reconstruction of the mandible part I: experience of 218 cases and surgical outcomes
ConclusionsMandible reconstruction implies the restoration of form and function of the mandibular bone apparatus  as well as aesthetics, and for that reason, the authors consider the free bone flaps as the paramount technique for complex oromandibular reconstruction.Level of evidence: Level IV, therapeutic study. Treatment of isolated zygomatic arch fractures with the  Gillies method
AbstractGillies method is widely used for zygomatic arch fractures. Many modifications were suggested over time but Gillies method is still carry on popularity. Seventeen patients with isolated zygomatic arch fractures  who were treated with Gillies method between 2016 and 2021 were included in this study. All patients were male and the mean age was 23 years (20–32). All operations were performed under sedation anesthesia. All patients healed uneventfully. Only one transient frontal branch of facial nerve para lysis was seen in the follow-up. Etiology of zygomatic arc fractures were sports injury in 9 patients (53%), ...
